Nerumi Kaino

Nerumi seems to be a free spirit with little ambition of her own. As a custodian of the local museum, she often has to clean up after Emil’s messes. Her history continues to follow after her as she gets dragged into Amuzium.

Though Nerumi has a subdued devil-may-care kind of attitude on the surface, this is the latest out of a string of personalities she’s adopted out of convenience. Her personal motto is to minimize losses and try to coast through life as smoothly as possible (though it’s never that simple), and the less thinking of her own she has to do, the better. As a result, she would rather let others make decisions for her and base her choices on what others would do.

As a child, Nerumi’s mother took her to numerous pageants, wanting people to see the best in her child. Though Nerumi enjoyed performing for an audience, eventually she began to deeply dislike the attention. She and her mother moved away at her request. Once she arrived at her next school, Nerumi became reclusive and avoidant in an attempt to stand out as little as possible. Unfortunately, this resulted in her becoming a target of bullying. Then deciding it’s best to fit in with the crowd instead, she adopted a high-energy and feminine persona in highschool, doing whatever she could to be “acceptable”, and surrounding herself with friends as a protective barrier. An incident involving unwanted advances from a stranger then leads Nerumi to look up to the person who helped her out, and her current personality is modeled after them.

Without any concrete plans after graduating highschool, she didn’t move onto further schooling and now works as a custodian at the museum.

• Lives with just her mother, a well-meaning woman who wants the best for her daughter.
• Good at reading people, as she builds her personality around people’s reactions and things she admires. Also is abnormally good at counting and keeping track of things; as a child, during pageants she would often adjust her performance on how she gauged the audience.
• Wears contacts during the day and glasses at other times, used to wear colour contacts in highschool as a fashion statement.
• Often hums and sings to herself when she’s alone while cleaning at her job to help the time pass.
  • She’s okay at her work, she does a fine job but also the bare minimum. Would rather not run into anyone she knows from the past.
