unique talent: in addition to the echo, belial's unique ability is 'resurrection'.  while he can tolerate an enormous amount of pain, he can be killed.  however, he will simply respawn.  the only injury he has ever permanently taken is the death blow lucifer dealt him during their infamous battle pre-arr where lucifer sliced off part of his left horn.  belial has lost hearing permanently on the left side of his horns.

calanthe: a village maiden who stumbled upon the sleepy lair of midgardsormr.  she discovered him in a deathly injured state and using her medical knowledge as a botanist, nursed him back to health.  shortly after, they fell in love and eventually gave birth to belial.  however, the village was raided by a group of bandits who slaughtered all but the infant, who was taken in as the leader's son.  midgardsormr, sensing the commotion, arrived too late and waged a bloody war when gaius and his men arrived to battle the great serpent.
