Rui awoke in a grove of trees, alone. Looking around aimlessly he felt his stomach growl, he was hungry even though he was just formed. From the trees a slice of well cooked meat fell. He raced towards it but before scuffing it down he cautiously looked around. Squinting through the leaves he saw a figure of a young girl. Taken a back he fell, crawling away worried of what she might do. The two ended up face to face, both recognizing matching horns on each of their heads. She grabbed him excitedly exclaiming that she was a Recreate too! She hugged him and promised she would take good care of him, he felt a sort of comfort one would feel with their sibling, which is what the two went on as. The Recreate girl was formed 4 years before Rui, in the exact same place she found him. Her name was Tori and she refused to travel with the Collectors to the Recreate dome, which was why she was still around her formed area. Tori taught Rui how to hunt, hide and raid. Over time the two would become bolder with raiding. Going for lone houses out in the middle of no where to larger homes on the outskirts of villages and large community's. Rui and Tori travelled often, exploring the beautiful world they lived in.

On Rui's 10th birthday she decided it was time he raided a bigger home so Tori, as the professional she was, took Rui to a beautiful home she had scouted for the past few weeks. Every Tuesday morning the family that lived there would go to get food together which left Rui and Tori exactly 1 hour to take as much as they could. The two hid eagerly in the trees by the home waiting for the family to leave. Tori watched as they went, making sure to watch them pass onto the next street so the two wouldn't get caught. Nodding at Rui, the two went straight for the open kitchen window. Jars of delicious jams and containers filled with food, Tori went straight for supplies. She told Rui to go upstairs and see if there was anything valuable. Rui climbed the stairs eagerly as he was never allowed to go off on his own during raids. He emptied all the draws, looked under beds and took anything that he thought would please Tori. Opening one of the boxes he found a beautiful earring he believed would suit Tori very well. Overjoyed he ran downstairs to show Tori. Turning the corner he saw Tori with a card and a beautiful earring that looked just like hers. His eyes shined, "Happy Birthday Rui." He reached out for her.

Blood splashed his face. A gunshot echoed the room. Tori dropped, lifeless and silent. Rui covered his mouth, falling to his knees. He felt dizzy, like he could puke at any moment. Looking up, he made eye contact with a tall man pointing a gun at his head. The father forgot his wallet. A simple mistake. And a life traded for a small mistake. The man shot a bullet between Rui's eyes. Moving in a blink it scraped his cheek. The man cocked his gun ready to go again. Everything was blurry, all Rui could do was run. He couldn't breathe, he didn't want to leave his sister, his beloved sister.

Gun shots echoed behind him, he didn't stop running even though all he waned to do was turn around and take his sister with him. Tripping over a rock, he rolled down a small hill. There he laid in silence, the air brushing his bangs across his face. There Rui cried and he didn't stop crying till the sun set.

The sun rose across the trees yet Rui didn't. He couldn't move, he couldn't speak, all he could do was lay there. Out of no where a hand stroked his cheek. He opened his eyes. His sister looked down upon him. A single tear fell from her face yet she smiled. "Don't worry Rui. They will keep you safe." Rui sprung forward. He found himself in a hospital room, the sun dripping through the windows. Tears fell slowly. He had lost everything. Everything but his gift to his beloved sister. A beautiful earring caused lights to dance around the room. Removing his small stud his sister had put in for him, he clipped the earring. A gift for his sister. A gift to remember his sister.
