Oriko plays up the stereotype of the cold-blooded interstellar bounty hunter: someone who's too intimidating to approach, and who's too cool to care about friendship or social niceties. In reality, he craves closer connections with people, but he's also got awful self-esteem; he's got it in his head that there's no reason for people to want to be around him unless there's something he can do for them, and he prefers for the reason why people won't approach him to be "because he's just too much of a badass." He will go out of his way to help people if they're even slightly nice to him, but it takes him much longer to open up about anything personal. One of the things he tends to keep to himself is that before he left his homeworld, he bought implants to give himself psychic powers. He can sense when people are nearby, and if he touches anyone with bare hands he can feel their emotions. Unlike the alien species which naturally has this ability, he can actually turn it off, so the gloves are just for the aesthetic. They also hide the "corpse" part of his tattoo of his homeworld's native plant the "corpse bramble", which is perceived as more professional in certain contexts.
He likes to knit or crochet on long space flights. He gives his creations away to basically just random people, including complete strangers, though if he's actually fond of someone he will make personalized gifts for them. Somehow he always manages to take knitting/crocheting supplies with him into the cabin of a passenger spacecraft, despite those being classified as a weapon. When a fellow passenger complains to the crew and he ends up unable to do his preferred hobby, he's been known to provide backing vocals for fellow bounty hunter Kraa's music instead. He's got no musical talent to speak of, but there's a lot that can be done with the judicious application of autotune.
