Dirkk Naryl

↪ Born Amara Nicole Naryl, Dirkk led a fairly droll childhood life though he didn't much care for baby dolls, playing house or dressing up. Instead he loved riding horses, wrestling with his siblings and catching bugs. Being pampered as a princess was Dirkk's least favorite thing in the world and in time the queens, Malora and Syreth, let their little princess wear pants, play in the mud and cut his hair short.

↪ But it wasn't enough. Dirkk thought, as many children do, that when a person grew up they got to choose their sex and gender. When Dirkk started to develop breasts and went into menses he wailed his despair and begged anyone who would listen to make him into a man. No one listened and many more thought him too queer a person for their children to be around. Thus Dirkk was shunned from most of his peers.

↪ The queens, most notably Syreth, were sympathetic to their child and began to teach him the ways of witchcraft. Though nothing they knew of could give their child what he truly wanted, they hoped that focusing on something else might ease the pain and perhaps even provide a path toward what Dirkk wished for the most.

↪ Dirkk was reluctant at first for he wasn't promised that magic would grant his wish, so he procrastinated on his studies and did them halfheartedly when forced. His mothers taught him many different types of magic but only tea and herbal magic interested him in the slightest; something inside him called out for a need to heal. He practiced with more enthusiasm after being showed how to make teas that could heal ailments and learning about the vast spectrum of plants kept him busy.

↪ Eventually Dirkk came to learn of Airmed, the fae goddess of healing and herbalism. At fifteen Dirkk devoted himself and his craft to her in the hopes that she may heal his biggest burden. They spoke on occasion and Dirkk became familiar with her quirky humor. He fell in love with her for a time and though he was sure she knew without him telling, she never mentioned anything about it and kept at a professional distance. Quickly the infatuation faded but Dirkk's devotion to Airmed's cause did not.

↪ On Dirkk's eighteenth birthday Airmed gave him knowledge of a secret place where a fountain sprang from the earth and in its healing waters a person worthy of the gift could change themselves physically any way they wished in return for secrecy: no one else was to know about the secret fountain no matter how Dirkk was questioned. Airmed said the knowledge was a gift for Dirkk's devotion to the healing of others for so many years.

↪ That summer Dirkk took leave of the castle and Elfore entirely to travel to a distant land. He was gone until the last leaves of fall were clinging desperately to the tree limbs and he came back looking quite different and altogether immensely joyous. People were shocked at the transformation but when questioned Dirkk never told anyone what had transpired in his time away, only that yes he was himself and he couldn't be happier nor more grateful to Airmed for the wonderful gift she had given him.
