Backstory: Born to a demonborn man and an earth elemental woman in the City of Válora, Rocardo was something a miracle given the genetic incompatibility of his parents. Nevertheless, nothing about his life ever felt like much of a miracle, given that both sides of his family considered him an oddity and his peers antagonized him by assaulting him and likening his looks to that of a monstrous gargoyle. 

Still, his parents were hard workers, and did their best to provide for him. But one day, it was no longer enough, as their poor neighborhood was demolished to make room for noble residences at the command of the royal family. With nowhere else to go, Rocardo's parents decided to take what they had left and move to a place that, if nothing else, would always let them know where they stood: the City of Dorn.

Spending the next phase of his life there, Rocardo grew old enough to see how unfairly his parents had been treated, and thus wanted to provide for them like they had for him. With that, he looked for honest work, and eventually settled into a marketplace gig. Unfortunately, even that didn't seem to be enough.

That is, until another sales position opened up for him... of a different sort. One day, he was approached by low-ranked members of the Ignacías Family, one of the city's ruling dynasties. They told him that, though he was not a full-blooded demonborn, they felt he had enough infernal ancestry and motivation to work for them, and offered him a position as a "distributor".

Rocardo accepted, and even reclaimed his old nickname by making "the Gargoyle" his alias on the street. Though his family and art will always be his passion, he cannot lie to himself: he enjoys the feeling of power that comes with working for the Ignacías Family. For once, he finds himself not at the bottom of the totem pole, but closer to the top.
