Mariona McKendrick

 Mariona McKendrick has been a runaway all her life- fleeing from her family, her home country, and her own common sense when it gets in the way of another rush of adrenaline. Her rebellious streak, combined with her people-pleasing tenancies derived from a lifetime of conforming to her parents' standards, have landed her in pubs, brothels, molly-houses, and various other seedy places a self-respecting gentleman shouldn't be milling about. He uses her extroversion, spunk, and manic energy to uplift spirits, attract attention, and generally invite others to have a good time through whatever means necessary!
 He has performed in drag and similar performances since his early teens- both as a private show of rebellion against her traditional Protestant family, as an escape from her responsibilities as the eldest child, and as a means of sustaining herself in a time of financial hardship. He experimented with his identity and explored both burlesque and sex work, as well as increasingly dangerous and lucrative performances involving chains, ropes, knives, and fire. He was largely supported by her charming and possessive partner at the time, who enabled and financially profited off of her impulsivity and disregard for her safety.
 When a devastating accident occurs on-stage leaving her permanently scarred from head to toe, McKendrick flees Scotland by train, headed straight to London. As he struggles to put her troubled past behind her, McKendrick finds herself standing before a new opportunity, with a new name to boot: *Fettered Fortune,* London's very own escape artist and the newest member of its extravagant circus.
