Once a proud independent scholar, Ocelia was a curious mind. She had no issues taking herself into the fray to try to understand the secrets of lost civilizations and worlds before her time, of roughly 100 years of age. Unfortunately, upon one of her expeditions, she was met with an ancient curse that took hold of her. This curse purged her mind of her previous understanding of language, and instead bestowed a twisted gift. She can parse, speak, and understand any Dead language, but has lost the ability to understand or remember the meaning of any ones she had known before. This includes her mental voice, she cannot think in common, only in lost tongues. She joined with the crew shortly after this, seeking help from anyone, but helplessly lost among these strangers she could not parse. She was lucky that Sylvia seemed to be keen on her tomes, and dragged her along into the ship, where through a long game of charades and confused attempts to communicate, they began to understand the basics of her curse. This has given her a place among fellow friends who are content to let her continue her studies and research across their adventures. The issue is she can understand all the old scrolls and books and various ancient Mythos, but she can’t communicate that to her crew, so most of her work is independent in her study. When the crew needs all hands on deck for large-scale plans, things are quick to be miscommunicated and confused, but she plays an excellent 'high-class damsel lost in the city'. Currently, her closest friend is sylvia, who is trying to learn one of said dead languages through old tomes and books to try to communicate better with her. It is going sluggish at BEST, but Ocelia appreciates the effort.
