An NPC friend who is known to just kind of... wander into people's lives and houses and treat everyone like aunty and uncle! Because he's still a fledgling, he's used to all the adult Sanctilae taking care of him-- so surely everyone is a friend??

Mercurie: Can you make me some breakfast?? take me to a movie?? is that a sprinkler i can play with??

[human, nearly sobbing]: who are u and how did u get into my apartment

The adults of the Sanctuary know Mercurie is a sturdy little bugger and it's unlikely anything's gonna hurt him so... why not let the kid wander? Go play, buddy!

He turns up back up at the sanctuary every so often, babbling about the fun stuff he's seen and the people he's met (only occasionally kidnapping a 'friend' to "come meet everyone!"), so they know he's doing ok.

If Mercurie shows up in your home or workplace, good luck getting him back out of it... He pretty much takes being thrown out as 'go play, kiddo!' rather than 'get OUT you weirdo, who even are you?!' He is unphased by people lifting, dragging, or throwing him-- the adult Sanctilae probably do it all the time if he's bugging them, like how cats swat annoying kittens away.

The kid can squeeze through ungodly small gaps, and he'll absolutely make a game of getting back inside.

'Oh! Forgot to let me in! no worries! I slide through railing bars!'

Your best bet is probably making a trail of Poptarts or Kraft singles out of your house, and then pointing to a random other place and telling him there's more snacks over there. If you're lucky, he will become distracted by NEW friends before he can remember that he hasn't finished off all your mac & cheese yet.

Juni is primarily the one tasked with looking out for the kid (outside of the fact that he's also stupid as a brick)... Juni is also probably the one who told the kid that it was okay to run into random humans' houses.
