Gender: friendly buggy! C:
Pronouns: they/them

Origins/Setting: Minecraft
Mun to Muse Scale: 9.5 out of 10 avatar, it's just me running around a pretend game world!

Skills include:

  • If it's vertical it's getting climbed
  • Gardening! Farming! Crops!!
  • Loves bringing home new animals
  • Does not love sorting out pens or stables and will probably just put 50 creatures into a single 8x8 slightly-submerged hole with a stable roof. The animals are fine! You are not fine if you want to get anything done in there, but that sounds like your problem, not mine.
  • Voted Most Likely To Walk Off In A Random Direction And Build A New, Better House 23498729052 Miles From The House They Just Spent 15 Hours Making For Everyone Else, This One Will Be So Much Better And Have None Of The Problems The Last One Did
  • Night vision so good that night is indistinguishable from day. Incidentally, didn't realize it was night and just got shot in the back of the head by a surprise dropskeleton and died. Again.

Ref Info:

Organisms: primarily orchid mantis (Hymenopus coronatus) with nods to tarantulas (Theraphosidae, etc) and mammals
Bauplan: chubby digitigrade
Exterior: skin with thickly furred areas
Land, Sea, Sky: terrestrial with great climbing ability (with wings grown in: fast but clumsy flier; with magic: mediocre swimmer)
Clothing: may wear something light on upper body just to look nice (most commonly an under-the-armpit shawl and a braided armband) but otherwise, Looney Tunes rules.
Notes:

  • this is very cartoony and I won't apologize. Minecraft gave me about twelve pixels to work with, you're lucky I glowed it up this much
  • the antenna(?) are mobile enough to play a big part in mood/reaction signaling! Eyes and mouth are also expressive, think cartoony.
  • unfurred on head/torso. Fur starts as invisible velvet on limbs nearest the trunk and grows into a plush, thick layer by wrists/knees. Fur does fully cover arms but not legs, leaving inside of thighs and everything below the knees uncovered.

Design History:

→START: "oh boy, this Minecraft mod pack has something called the Origins mod! Let's see, what will I be? [TWO HOUR INDECISION INTERMISSION] Well it took some narrowing down but Arachnae sounds really cool, being able to climb anything sounds silly!"

→15 SECONDS LATER: "ah shit. all my friends are arachnophobes, right."

→WHAT DOES THE FRIEND WHO HATES BUGS THE MOST LIKE? "well, butterflies and moths, but that doesn't fit for something that can't fly and does climb... what other pretty bugs are there... I know, orchid mantids!"

→HOW CONVINCING ARE MANTIS MINECRAFT SKINS? "uh. moderately, but they're almost horror-leaning, wtf...."

→ARE YOU MAKING YOUR OWN SKIN NOW? "Noooo I'm inept, but I guess I can color over this one and take out the weird complicated bits."

→IS THIS JUST A MANTIS? "Well, the little lore blurb for Arachnae suggested they're some kind of human-spider amalgam, so I could always make it a furry... that would be easier to explain and draw and probably be cuter."

→WAIT WHICH BASE DID YOU PUT THE SKIN ON, NORMAL OR SLIM? "@#$%. It's not on Slim. WELL, now it's a FAT orchid mantis person thing."

→THAT'S A GOOD THING FOR A BUG TO BE: "I know.  uwu "
