Lane Hayes

Lane was born with the inability to feel pain and has had a really difficult time understanding and feeling extreme emotions. He has lived his whole life wondering how was he different from the other kids. 

He wanted to figure out what are the limits of human pain tolerance. It would be useful for him to know how to act like the others in similar situations.
He can be often seen mimicking others and their reactions and taking notes. And maybe if he mimicked others he could possibly feel those emotions himself.

He found his way to an academy that is studying a recent outbreak of a brain-eating fungus that affects animals and humans.
Lane's special interest in the nervous system was found helpful which got him accepted. 

Lane has for the first time properly befriended people. He enjoys his time in the academy. He feels important and appreciated unlike before. He could actually help people.

It's just a shame his time might be running out.

▪︎ Lane was over-protected as a kid because of his condition. It made him feel even more of an outcast than the other kids.
▪︎ He has a hard time understanding emotions, but tries his best to do research on human behavior and emotion related to pain.
▪︎ He is very resourceful with injuries and first help. Since he needs to be alert of his own body if he has gotten any injuries.
▪︎ He became observant and self-reliant in navigating his environments. Often noticing possible dangers in the area.
It can be pretty tiring for other people if he is in one of those moods where he feels the need to point them out.
▪︎ He is very observant of other people's behavior, especially when they’re hurt.
▪︎ Lane often exaggerates emotionally how he feels, compensating for the lack of physical feelings.
▪︎ Lane is very curious and often forgets what personal space is.
▪︎ He has a unique view of the world since pain doesn't make him scared of experiences. He focuses more on texture, temperature, and touch.
▪︎ Even if he doesn't feel pain, he does find discomfort with sticky textures and surfaces. Blood is something he would rather not get in touch with bare hands…
▪︎ Lane has a bad habit of rubbing his eye.
