Floyd is a wolf and a canima. He's a hybrid that nobody wants. Therefore, he was left for dead from his pack. "Freak of nature"

With one slash on the back of the neck, you can be paralyzed from the neck down. It will wear off eventually. After a couple hours pass. Floyd has the normal hunting skills as a wolf but with Canima in him he can fun faster, smell better, and hear more keenly. Don't let his genetics scare you though. He's overall a great dude.
