The leader of Amalgam's only extant unicorn settlement and a very powerful chaos mage. Spectra is responsible for the overall management of Persepia, protecting the unicorns from outside threats, and protecting the outside world from the high levels of chaos energy held within the city-state. They are the adoptive mother of Jade, who came into her care when he was a toddler.

Spectra has spent much of their life living in the unicorn city of Persepia, and has served as a member of the Persepian council for over a hundred years. They are a powerful chaos mage, having developed their skills over several decades and multiple studies of various chaos techniques. She is currently head of the council, making the most serious decisions with council input, with fellow council member Lilac as her second-in-command.

Personality

Spectra is a fairly level-headed person, nearly a century of experience with things going wrong contributing to their almost unflappable demeanour. She can be a little bossy, especially when dealing with non-unicorn people-- being at least a century older than most people they meet makes it difficult for them to understand the concerns of shorter-lived peoples. She means well, however, and her position as leader of Persepia is one dedicated to protecting others regardless of species.

Spectra can be strict, but rarely raises their voice. She prefers to avoid assigning blame when things go wrong, instead working to resolve the issue.

History

Like all unicorns, Spectra was generated in the "nursery" of Persepia. Their parents-- Sapphire and Magnolia Acornis-- had decided they wanted to raise a child, and took the traditional offerings to the nursery pools to have one made. The pools are ancient technology, perhaps predating Babylon, and exist to weave flesh, bone and chaos energy into a living being, using a shard of crystallised chaos energy as a matrix.

Spectra was born pure white with a transparent horn, like all other baby unicorns. She was a shy, bookish child, preferring to read alone and study chaos magic rather than participate in atheletic events or crafting workshops. Her powers came in slowly, but when they did it was with a bang-- unlike other unicorns, who usually gained one or two colours from their particular affinity, Spectra's mane and tail became a riotous rainbow, while their horn and hooves became golden. Her colouration was deeply unusual, but marked her as a very powerful chaos mage-- one who could use any chaos-related power with training.

At 16, Spectra took their graduation exams early, and passed with flying colours. Having read her way through almost every book in Persepia's library, she decided to leave the city to see what could be learned from the other peoples of Mobius. Spectra spent much of their young adulthood travelling to every corner of Mobius in order to study. They were fascinated by phenomena like wisp generation and the formation of chaos gemstones, and they deeply enjoyed delving into the history of the irradiated planet. Wherever she met people capable of harnessing chaos energy, she stopped to learn their techniques, recording them to add to the Persepian archives.

By the time they were fifty, Spectra had written several books on niche chaos energy techniques. Her work ensured the preservation of dozens of techniques that otherwise would've been lost with their inventors' deaths.

Spectra's grandfather passed in early 1954, and they returned home to attend his funeral service and support their family. While Auburn had not been a leadership figure himself, his death came unexpectedly during a leadership spill, and compounded the turmoil Persepia was experiencing-- unicorns do not die naturally, which meant that there was a killer somewhere in the city-state that had to be rooted out.

Persepia became an unstable place in the wake of Auburn's death, especially when a few more deaths occurred shortly afterward. Every time council members attempted to unite and launch investigations into the mysterious deaths, another would occur, throwing things further into chaos. Spectra was one of several younger unicorns who joined forces with former council member Cerulean in order to capture the killer. The versatility of their powers was a key part of the investigation; she was able to scry for information, communicate with the team, and share power all without leaving the chaos technological repositories below the city. Together, the group uncovered the identity of the killer-- an older unicorn named Sterling-- and exiled them from Persepia.

After the situation was stabilised, Spectra was elected to the council alongside a few of her compatriots in the place of those who had been killed by Sterling. They took the newly-orphaned Jade under their wing, hoping to help the child recover from the trauma of witnessing his parents' murder. While not very experienced with children, Spectra did her best to be kind and patient, and gradually drew Jade back out of his shell. The young unicorn soon became the focus of Spectra's non-council time, and they became quite close as Jade gradually settled into his new home.

Persepia itself experienced very little disruption when the worlds merged; the valley the city reseted in was translocated whole into a space along the former borders of Iran and Armenia.

Being the leader of the settlement at this time, Spectra travelled with their bodyguards to inspect the new terrain surrounding the city. It didn't take them long to encounter humans, as confused by the city's sudden displacement as they were. The unicorns established communication, but quickly decided it wasn't safe for them to remain in close contact-- humans didn't possess the resistance to chaos energy that regular mobians did, and the unicorns' city radiated a significant amount of it into the atmosphere.

Spectra worked with Persepia's council to raise a magical barrier around the city and its surrounding area, ensuring that the chaos energy within couldn't seep out to contaminate the human lands and cause the humans harm.

Current Day

Along with most of the other unicorns, Spectra remains within the shielded city today. Despite sealing themslves away with their trove of chaos-powered artifacts, the unicorns maintain contact with the outside world via radio and internet relays. Spectra focuses much of her time on maintaining the archives and training Jade, as little else requires her attention while the city remains beneath its glowing bubble.
