From the Embyan species description:

"A demigod species found all over the world, noteable for their kind  demeanor and distinguished by the orbs on their bodies and heads which  contain their souls.

The orbs on their head, chest, and back come in a variety of colours. As  these contain parts of their souls (and thus, their energy), there are  often objects embedded within them. Embyans that reside near water could  have shells, coral, fish, etc. within their orbs.

If an orb is  shattered, particularly the one on their chest, they are incredibly  weakened. If they cannot find sufficient rest to regenerate the orb,  they will die. The orbs disintegrate, seep into the ground, and grow  small patches of flowers. Their orbs are nearly as sturdy as diamonds,  however, and are very hard to destroy. While not immortal, they have  lifespans of around 100 years.

While they may seem intimidating,  especially those of larger statures, they are actually incredibly docile  and cheerful. They particularly love humans, as they offer attention.  They love to be pet. Embyans put off a lot of warmth, so their snuggling  is often welcomed."
