Not knowing anything about his past, Merc is determined to be in control of everything he can. Must be tough not remembering anything before waking up in a small peculiar village full of strange people obsessed with astrology, magic and animals. Surprisingly, they seem to be the key to understanding where he came from. Or at least their keen interest in him seems to indicate that. Well since they provided him with a place to stay (an old rickety shack which he loves more than he's willing to admit) and the opportunity to learn some magic at the local school why not take advantage of that? As long as it helps him to gain understanding of what's happening around him and use it to his benefit. There is no way he's making any friends anyways.

Extremely hard to get along with, combined with his attitude and rude demeanor makes him unapproachable. Ironically his mysterious aura seems to spark interest in many so they usually have to learn the hard way that he would love to be left alone. The walking definition of dark academia aesthetic.

Despite everything, there is a small spark of joy in his life, his only friend/person he's willing to tolerate. Pogo, the promising young potion apprentice and a ball of sunshine motivates him to discover his strengths and weaknesses and to learn everything about himself all over again.
