Hugo Paddock

Hugo has a chaotic, prideful personality, which often causes conflict. He also tends to be confident in himself and his own abilities. However, when he loses, he goes into a state of grief before recovering and picking fights again.

Hugo has shown a heavy theme of attachment and sentimentality. He cares deeply about his pet ferret Clementine, and is very protective of the people he cares about. He also adores animals, refusing to eat meat, and getting angry at anyone who hurts one. He also idolized Charles and Rodek, though rarely showing it, and the loss of Charles left him deeply scarred.

Hugo grew up in unusual circumstances.

Growing up in the Church of Sune, he saw little of his high-ranking parents. His mother, a Solar (Angel), was considered a deity by most, and his father, a high priest, always seemed to be busy, and Hugo rarely got to see them. His family was very wealthy, so he was very privileged: with a good education and tutorship, and all his needs met. He would soon tire of all the dinners and balls, however.

When he was 15, Hugo fell in love. Artemis, a beautiful stable hand, took care of his horse friend, Shroud. She would show him her home, and the city life he'd always wanted, which prompted him to pack up and leave the Church, to become an adventurer. To his dismay, she would not go travelling with him; she couldn't leave her family.

On his travels, he met another girl. Ana Fraize was a daring and wild girl, and she decided to come with him. They had many adventures together, until one day, in a small village, she met a girl, whom she fell in love with.

Hugo was distraught. Ana settled in with her new lover, and Hugo continued on his travels again.

Arriving at a city by the oceanon his 16th birthday, he met two men, who jumped him in an alleyway. However, he was very broke at the time, and they decided to adopt him instead. Rodek, Charles, and Hugo, had great adventures together: fighting goblins, getting teleported and stranded on a whole other continent, and drinking too much beer.

But one day, they were invited to a tournament, in which they fought one of the mighty Steel Brothers. Charles got ripped in half.

This deeply traumatised Hugo, so much so that he named a ship after him. It was certainly surprising that none other than Ana Fraize was that ship's captain.
