Deep into the dark depths of the ocean lie these colossal horrors called Leviathans. Leviathans are ancient and powerful and incomprehensible beings capable of great psionic power. Those unlucky enough to peer into the mind of a Leviathan are rendered utterly insane.
Sometimes, a Leviathan will create a projection of itself and send it to land. These projections are called Leviathan Avatars (or just Avatars). No one knows why a Leviathan would create an Avatar. Some speculate that these Avatars are sent to infiltrate other societies, spread the Leviathan’s influence to dry land, or otherwise carry out some twisted agenda. Or maybe, Leviathans create Avatars out of boredom. Maybe the long decades weigh heavily on these alien beings, and they become eager to explore the world with a fresh set of eyes. It isn't even know whether creating an Avatar is a natural ability or whether the Leviathans create their Avatars using magic. What is known about these Avatars is that they are semi-independent from the Leviathan that spawned them. While the Leviathan and its Avatar are technically the same being, the Avatars have their own personalities and sometimes even their own goals.
Shortly after her creation, Iatrabbeth found herself washed up on a beach in Rhode Island. Though she was born with an adult body and mind, she found this new world very strange and confusing. Her arrival caused a sensation. All the humans who were at the beach panicked at the sight of this strange creature. The fact that she was unintentionally throwing around psychic signals to make everyone more fearful and confused did not help. She was eventually captured by the authorities and placed in a lab.
Her time at the lab was a fun experience at first. She didn’t mind the scientists taking samples of her or doing tests on her. Iatrabbeth saw this as an opportunity to learn about herself and about the strange creatures that inhabit the land. Once they found out that she was sapient, they taught her English so they could ask her questions. However, over time, the scientists who worked on her started to experience headaches, nightmares, even hallucinations.
Eventually, Iatrabbeth was rescued by a cult that worshiped Leviathans. The cultists took her to their temple, where she was treated like a goddess. The cultists treated her to many offerings and sacrifices. She eventually got bored of them. Though useful in many ways, she quickly found that there was little she could learn from them. Iatrabbeth applied to OtherWorlde Academy to get out of the temple and learn more powerful magic.
Misc:
- Iatrabbeth has no idea how to interact with people. She is learning, though
- Despite her awkwardness, she is quite arrogant and believes herself to be vastly superior to those around her. She is quite wrong
- In regards to romance/sexuality, it is ambiguous whether she actually enjoys sex or romance or is just really, really curious and/or has no problem using sex to get something else
- She does not like cats and dogs. She's not an animal person in general
- She is very fond of eating fish and makes fun of mermaids who don't
