Brought back as something different and gaining the power to control their own blood. Unfortunately, being raised as some kind of monster has its downsides, and now the "fun police" are trying to hunt them down and put a permanent end to their antics. One of the skills they picked up to deal with this was hardening their blood into scales and other various shapes for protection from hunter weapons or for... Y'know, fighting. Claws 'n such.
