the dark is everything to her. everything about the disappearance of the sun is rapturous; the air is sweeter at midnight, the forest is so very quiet. nobody can bother her anymore, nobody can get in her way. solitude. to this creature of the night, the scarce illumination of the moonlight is life's greatest gift.

perhaps solitude is incorrect, perhaps the waxing and waning moon is not the ultimate joy. try as she might, her beloved will always occupy a considerable space in her mind, her heart. she would never think to say it - not yet, she still needs time - so she buries all of her feelings deep down. into the void she shall fade for now, blending in with the shadows of the undergrowth, cool and stable like she wishes she could be. she will tame the heat of her heart with the shade, disciplined and steady.

and one day, she will come out from hiding. her love will smoulder and softly glow like embers, harmonious with the stars in the sky, lighting her path forward.

she takes a deep breath; the crisp air fills her lungs. the buzz of the forest dulls as the sun sets, her affection the passionate red light fading into purple and then black, pitch black. perhaps she would never enjoy true daylight; to her, the most honorable path is to adapt, to learn to create her own glow in the night sky. she will enjoy the kind of devotion that can be felt within silence.
