Fortuna's experiences with her mother have made her cautious and slow to open up with others. After her mother's betrayal, Fortuna has become a bit paranoid and deeply insecure. She clings tightly to those closest to her-- Rhapsody and Dentacles. She struggles deeply with feelings of abandonment and being replaced or unwanted. Now that Valor is missing, she fears losing them more than anything else and it has led her to make a few risky decisions.
However, once you've earned Fortuna's trust and pushed past her wary exterior, she's warm and friendly. She is very empathetic and can be a bit of a mother hen, fretting over her fellow adventurers and loved ones and making sure they're fed and well rested. She is headstrong and determined to do the right thing for the people she cares about. She often shows her affection by teasing, a habit she picked up long ago from spending time with Valor when they were children.

Backstory

Fortuna was raised since she was very young by her adoptive mother Delmoira, a hag with barn owl-like traits and many eyes. She was born a tiefling, but with her proximity to the magic of her mother, her appearance began to change as she grew, resulting in her twisted horns, feathers, and her extra eye. She and her mother lived in a dense forest and Fortuna roamed the woods freely, exploring and playing. As she grew older, maybe around 11 or 12, she was allowed limited trips to a nearby village, where she met Valor. They played and spent time together, but Delmoira hated him. Fortuna spent less and less time at home with her, and the lack of control angered her. As they grew older, Fortuna and Valor became a couple, which Fortuna kept from her mother as long as she possibly could. Delmoira had suspicions, but Fortuna constantly placated her fears. When they were in their early twenties, Valor joined an adventuring party and he begged Fortuna to come with him, but she wouldn't leave her mother. Even though she wanted to, she didn't feel she could. Delmoira was happy with her daughter being around more, finally glad to be rid of Valor from their lives. He came around to visit often though and she'd sneak away to see him, and they wrote letters that she'd send and pick up on her trips to the village when she could get away. Delmoira's suspicions about their relationship were confirmed when Fortuna couldn't hide her pregnancy anymore. She was enraged and swore never to let Fortuna leave again.

Current Life

Valor was supposed to return for the birth of Fortuna's and his daughter and stay as long as he could, but when he never arrived, Fortuna feared that her mother had done something to him. He'd never missed a meeting before and he was always committed to her, so she didn't believe it when her mother insisted that Valor had run off and would never come back. Fortuna gave birth to their daughter Rhapsody without Valor there, and once Rhapsody was a few months old, Fortuna decided she'd be okay to travel. She took her with her when she left her mother's home and set off to find Valor. There was no sign of him in the forest, so she traveled further away and began asking around in taverns and adventurers' guilds. That's where she got the lead that he'd last been seen with Titus Murai and started looking for him for information. She's been following leads since then then with a rotating party of travelers and adventurers at her side, and always accompaned by her friend Dentacles, who she met on the road. The two of them received a tip that Valor was now traveling with a woman known as Miss Debonair and performing with her musical act, and though they've managed to track him down, they have yet to catch them before they leave.

Fortuna's partner and the father of her daughter. Valor is a charismatic and adventurous man who was born to perform. He can't help but show off sometimes, if only to get Fortuna's attention or make her laugh. They have a very playful relationship; she loves to tease him, but he knows when she calls him names that they're meant with the deepest affection, which causes him to do even more ridiculous things to provoke her. Fortuna and Valor have known one another since they were around eleven years old, and have been a couple since the two of them were seventeen.

Fortuna and Valor's six month old daughter. Rhapsody is a sorcerer, born a hexblood with magic from both her mother and father. She's a chatty, happy, baby and travels with Fortuna on her adventures. She has incredibly sharp teeth and is always chewing on whatever she can get her hands on. Dentacles is her favorite babysitter.

Delmoira

Fortuna's adoptive mother, the hag who found her wandering the woods and took her in. Delmoira is controlling of her daughter and diaspproving of her relationship, but Fortuna trusted her up until Valor disappeared and Delmoira didn't share her worry or distress. Now she doesn't know how to feel; it's hard to lose her love completely for the woman who raised her, but she can't shake the feeling that she was never loved in return.

Dentacles

Fortuna's closest friend and fellow traveler. She helped Dentacles rescue his fianceƩ, and he's been helping her find Valor. He's been her support system throughout their travels as both a shoulder to lean on for Fortuna and an excellent uncle for Rhapsody. Her feelings for him are complicated, walking a razor-thin line between romantic and platonic. In whatever sense it may be, Dentacles is her partner and her closest confidant since they've met.
