Resilience

A medical procedure that Faith underwent years ago made him persistently resistant to death, even for things that would otherwise kill another phuzo. He can be repeatedly cut open and still survive, which was a miraculous "cure" for the illness he had suffered up until he had that procedure.

Organ Growth

Faith uses his natural resilience in an unusual way: he allows himself to be cut open, to have pieces of organs installed in him, and then to have them removed when they have grown. He is a living, willing organ farm. He used this to make some extra money when he was still struggling to find his place; these days, it is not a necessity. Instead, he does it for his own enjoyment.

About

Faith is a mellow, kindhearted phuzo with a gentle touch. He has boundless compassion; he can relate to almost any phuzo in front of him, citizen or criminal, and he has a way of interacting with the world that makes everything feel soft. There is a lot of love in his heart: this is made apparent by everything he does.

But he isn't only a gentle soul. Faith works under Vesper, a powerful crime lord, as one of Vesper's elite liutenants. He is a kind criminal, always looking for options that don't involve violence right up until the point that violence is unequivocally required -- at which point Faith does not hesitate to carry it out. He is decisive and clear-headed at all times; he does not do things he will regret. He even savors the violence of it all.

More than he likes to hurt others, Faith enjoys having violence directed at himself. He enjoys being under the knife: being cut open, having organs sewn into his body. Being cut open to have those same organs taken out later. His arrangement with Vesper is ideal: tender violence, just as Faith likes it.

Before the Fall

Faith grew deathly ill partway through his childhood, and he spent years searching for cures for himself. Doctor after doctor told him that there was nothing they could do: the degeneration of his body was impossible to stop, and they all told him that he should be counting his days. So he kept looking, and eventually he found Eden. This was the first doctor who thought he could treat Faith, and he did: by pioneering a miraculous new treatment and making Faith its test subject.

Faith's life drastically improved. He was finally able to live, for the first time since his childhood, and while he was still disabled from a life of illness, the freedom he gained was more than enough for him. He learned early that he could survive many forms of injury: the treatment Eden had given him made him significantly harder to kill. He found out that he could grow organs in his torso and have them removed at almost no risk to himself; with that in mind, he began working with this talent to make money. Selling a kidney here and there kept him afloat.

And then he met Vesper: a crime lord who was losing faith in the world. The two of them fell in perfectly with each other: Vesper a cannibal with an iron hold on Praque's criminal underworld, Faith willing to do what he has to in order to live his new life. Faith loved going under Vesper's knife; he loved attending Vesper's forbidden banquets. He loved the unexpected care and gentleness Vesper treated him with: with regard for Faith's disability, but never pity.

When Vesper offered Faith a position in his criminal organization, Faith readily accepted. He is the gentle lord of Vesper's court, underestimated by everybody but Vesper, and that is exactly how he likes it.

After the Fall

Vesper and many members of his gang fled the city after the fall, Faith included. They found their way to Sanctuary, where Faith lived with Vesper and his wife, Rihele, while they waited for something to happen with Praque. Faith spent a lot of this time missing his old life: Sanctuary was not built for the things he was used to doing. But he focused his attention on keeping Vesper grounded, and came to appreciate the mutt city for what it offered.

People there were kinder by default; the community of Sanctuary was built to support one another, not tear each other down. Faith had grown used to the hyper-competitive world he had grown up in, but he found Sanctuary to be a nice change. Still: by the time the city was meant to be retaken, he was growing antsy. As much as he liked the mutt city, he wanted to be home.

Returning to Praque

After the city was retaken, Vesper and his entourage returned to Praque. Faith was among them -- as was Vesper's daughter, Astra. They rebuilt Vesper's nightclub and returned, mostly, to the way things were before: there was plenty of cleaning to do, and many members of the criminal underground had died or fled Praque permanently, so all their supply lines and contacts had to be re-established. But it was good work to Faith: something useful to do in the adjustment phase, as he adjusted back into the life he was used to living.

Faith was happy to see Vesper soften as he spent time with his daughter; Faith adored Astra and Vesper both, and seeing them interact warmed his heart. Everything didn't go exactly back to normal -- it got better. Faith would do anything to preserve this life he was given.
