The temporary ruler of hell, Athanasius Was left with the throne when "God" had abandoned his people and left to destroy heaven. The former heir to the throne now rules the people with a somewhat iron fist, deciding to take over hell properly and become the true king.
His purpose now is to train an unbeatable army to get revenge on the one that abandoned them, why should "God" deserve peace when he left his own people to die? Everything was going smoothly until Nephora came to ruin his life (asked him for help) and now he HAD to help her (He didn't) defeat "God" on her own terms (He just felt like he wasted his time with the army).
Athanasius is often praised for his high intelligence but never puts it to any good use simply because he's too lazy
He doesn't believe in happy endings, he believe's "God" will someday return to hell only to purge all living things within it
He initially wasn't born into hell like everyone thinks, he was taken down from purgatory by "God" which makes him significantly weaker than regular demons.

Athanasius is only so willing to help Nephora because she reminds him of his close friend from his childhood when he was alive. He soon comes to think of her as his little sister in a way
Athanasius hates her, she is truly a raging bitch. She constantly nags and belittles him because he was chosen to be the ruler instead of her. Her presence just annoys him to no end
Another asshole, Athanasius can't stand this guys stuck up attitude, just because "God" chose him to go up to heaven with him does NOT mean he's better than Athanasius
