story

A woman born in District 20's Nest. Since she was a child, Evangeline had always been looking out for others. She took being the "mom friend" in her social circle with great pride. Making sure people felt happy and cared for brought her joy, which was why she decided to make it her profession by becoming a nurse. Evangeline was also a hopeless romantic, constantly getting into relationships that wouldn't last longer than three months. For her entire life, starting with her parents, she believed being in a relationship and settling down with someone was her ultimate goal in life, and she wanted to take care of that goal now while she was young and in her supposed prime.

When she was 22, she thought she finally found her one true love. He was a man she met during her side gig as a J Corp card dealer to help pay off her student loan debt, and she and fell hopelessly in love with him. They got married a year later. Barely a month passed after their marriage, and Evangeline was expecting her first child. The pair of newly-weds were ecstatic. However, it was during this time when her husband's attitude began to change. He began insisting that Evangeline quit her job and become a stay at home mom so that she could take care of their child. Evangeline refused until one day, the typical argument with her husband turned into a physical altercation. To avoid such another argument, she quit her job at the hospital and agreed to become a housewife for the benefit of her family.

Yet, the abuse continued. He set up a strict schedule for her in order to get her chores done. She wasn't allowed to leave the house—all shopping, including groceries was to be done online. If she complained about her husband's behavior, he beat her. If she whined about her pregnancy, he beat her. Nothing she did, not her cooking, her cleaning, her comforting, satisfied him. Eventually, Evangeline snapped. After being cooped up indoors for so long, she opened the window to her room, climbed out, and fell from the third floor of their apartment building. Fortunately, her window was just below the cloth canopy above the building's entrance and the fall didn't result in a miscarriage, but her husband refused to take her to the emergency room in fear of what would happen if the physicians discovered his abuse. He did not lay a hand on her for the next three months and began to treat her normally again, even allowing her to step outside the apartment, though Evangeline was worried this was a trick and never left.

Nine months into her pregnancy, the labor began. Her husband rushed her to the hospital. She was nervous, despite the nurses' reassurances that she was going to be fine. She couldn't help but feel that something was going to go wrong. And unfortunately, she would be proven right. Her labor was long and difficult. When the baby finally began to emerge, he got stuck in the birth canal. The situation rapidly deteriorated. By the time the doctors freed her son, it was too late. He had already succumbed to asphyxiation. Every attempt at resuscitating the child failed. Her son had died before he had even taken his first breath.

Moreover, the labour had rendered her infertile. Evangeline was devastated by the news, but none took it worse than her husband. Upon the realization that his wife could no longer bear her a child, he immediately demanded a divorce and left her at the hopsital to recuperate on her own during her greatest time of need. After recovering, she moved back in with her parents, but her folks were in an unstable financial situation and wouldn't be able to keep her for long. She needed to move out and find another job soon.

That was when she received the letter. The newly formed Wing Lobotomy Corporation was granting her a job opportunity at their main branch. The pay and benefits were among her wildest imagination. She would have to move away from everything she had ever known, but working at a Wing was the opportunity of a lifetime. Very soon, Evangeline finalized her divorce, packed her things, and moved to L Corp's district. And there, nothing would ever be the same again.
