Laika and the sun goddess continued to argue, until Continent suggested that they should split the sky between day and night. The sun goddess would rule the upperworld during the day, and Laika would rule the upperworld during the nighttime.
They both agreed to this, and Pretani did too, so it was decided that every day, the sun goddess would take over from Laika, and each night Laika would take over from the sun goddes.

One night, while the sun goddess was working the clouds during the day, Laika decided to sneak up on her as she was curious as to what she was doing during the day. This shocked the sun goddess so badly that she was temporatily knocked out of the sky. Laika apologised and said she was just curious, but the sun goddess took her to Pretani and demanded that she be killed. Pretani obviously refused, but gave Laika the curse of the dragonmice, mice with wings, that would swoop out of the sky and eat her nighttime citizens if they ever tried to leave their colony at night.
