Background: Okami is a ronin with a very normal family. Her father was a samurai, her mother from a fairly well off family. She has no sisters, but has three older brothers: Yuki (Courage), Jiro (Second son), and Shimo (Frost). Because of this, she grew up to be very tomboyish. Her only feminine interest is clothing. She took sword lessons from her father with her brothers, who used to tease her that she’d grow up liking women instead of men, thinking she’s a man instead of a woman.

Okami was never a social person, preferring the family dogs to the company of her family. They weren’t overly surprised when she declared at age 13 that she was going to become a ronin to get away. At first, her parents forbade her, but, after her three almost successful attempts at running away, they grudgingly obliged her. After a year of traveling, she received news of her brother Yuki’s marriage. The next year news reached her of two births: a little girl born to her parents named Hotaru (Firefly), and a son born to Yuki and his wife Mizuume (lake) whom they named Hikaru (light).

At the age of 19 she arrived in the domain of Lord Nakiyama and was asked to help Nomoru-dono on his quest to the Ohogo province with Moritaka Isamu, Pimiku, and Jaden. Upon meeting Nomoru and Jaden, she almost feared her brothers were right. They were pretty, but interested her not at all. She shrugged it off. It would make it easier if she weren’t emotionally attached to any member of the group.

Once she began learning magic, she felt something changing inside her. Something she couldn’t quite place, but didn’t like much. She felt increasingly more uncomfortable around most men, except her Sensei – Shikawa Kenji – and Jaden. Isamu simply scared her, and Nomoru annoyed her. Lord Neko made her ill.

She carries an enchanted blade, which reflects its wielder’s true emotions. If she was trying to kill someone with it and it wasn’t her true desire, she wouldn’t be able to succeed.

Her hair color changes depending on her mood. The following is a chart of some of the changes. The changes vary for each situation; the intensity of the emotion she’s experiencing will affect the shading of her hair and eyes. For example, if she is only mildly upset, her hair won’t be all that dark and her eyes will be more of a dark gray. If she’s slightly embarrassed, her hair will be a lighter pink, a opposed to if she’s highly embarrassed, where it’ll be a dark pink.

A Note on Okami’s Magic

The thing that she felt changing inside her was her personality. She will begin to rely more on people, focusing on one person eventually. When her magic fully blooms, only that one person will be able to get through to her. She will, about half the time, loose herself in the more powerful magics.
