Helping out in her parents restauarants sparked her love for cooking and it's something she does whenever she can. She likes to takes care of others by feeding them as much as experimenting with new recipes.

Maya may appear very friendly and self-assured in the way she speaks to everyone she meets, but honestly? This girl is just one big ball of anxiety personified. She just masks it by speaking… a lot. Like, an overwhelming amount of lot. Luckily she’s not particularly resentful, if she notices that somebody is not listening, has gone or interrupts. But even though she‘s not the best listener, she cares very much about people in general and shows it in food (and motherhenning in general). She is very excitable and nearly constantly in motion, be it speaking and gesturing, whipping up and down on her feet or just fumbling with her accessories. Her energy makes her also rather impatient and quick to act, something that can be rather useful when dealing with Meeka, who is nearly always sticking her nose somewhere it doesn’t belong or trying to eat something she shouldn’t, but quite detrimental otherwise. The exception is cooking. Cooking calms her and she can patiently wait for something to cook or roast.

Maya was born in Ecruteak City in Johto, six years later than her brother, Niko. She adored him and they both adored their grandfather, who lived with them and would often watch them while their parents worked. An retired Ace-Trainer, he would let them play and, in Nikos case train, with his Pokémon, which both greatly enjoyed. To their sixteenths birthdays he gifted each one an egg with their respective starter. He fell ill, when Maya was thirteen and died three years later, shortly after Meeka hatched.

Niko started his journey as soon as his starter hatched and only returned for his grandfathers funeral and Mayas birthdays, before traveling abroad again. Maya misses him terribly, even though he writes her as often as he can with the most colourful postcards he finds. He adores his little sister just as much she does him. He was last seen in Hoenn, trying to complete the Hoenn-Dex.

After her grandfather fell ill, Maya had to help out in the restaurant of her parents a lot, but she honestly enjoyed it, especially after she was allowed to learn how to cook and help out in the kitchen. This was what sparked her passion for cooking. Her grandfathers death hit her and hard and she spend a lot of time mourning him. It didn’t help, that her parents sold the restaurant after the funeral, to start a new restaurant in Konikoni-City in Alola. For the first two years after the move she and Meeka only helped in the new restaurant, not trying to travel.

With eighteen she started her journey over Alolas islands in the form of the traditional Island Challenge with Meeka. She managed to beat Elima and Maho, before she returned home. Part of reason for the end of her journey was that she was asked several times if she isn’t to old to start the Island Challenge, since the traditional age is eleven. Unsure from the beginning, the questions, combined with her anxiety were to much. With twenty-one she decided to give traveling a second chance, did her research and prepared herself to come to Nozama.
