(Pronounced “Mur-MAID-ia”)

Murmadia is a twenty-seven year old inktoling with a warm walnut brown skin tone, with purple fingertips and toes. Her heritage is that of a coconut octopus octoling and royal banded miniature squid inkling. She’s 5 '3' without her high heels, and 5 '5' with her high heels. Murmadia’s hair consists of a maroon base and a darker maroon base at the bottom of her hair. Her hair markings are regular octoling markings. She wears an abnormally large afro when compared to that of the average octoling and has two tentacles that stick out, acting as side bangs that go all the way down to her chest. There are suction cups on the inside of her tentacles, but not on the outside. She wears a large brown hat with golden studs on it. Her general body has octoling fingers and inkling feet, while her face consists of octoling eyelashes and her inkling face bridge. Her pupils are unique with them being in the shape of triangles, and her eye color is a lighter shade of maroon. Her teeth are in the shape of regular inkling teeth. On her face is gold makeup underneath her eyes, with two natural beauty marks. One is underneath her left eye, and the other is underneath the right side of her bottom lip.

Her clothing consists of a single one piece suit that has puffy sleeves and puffy leg ends, with the leg ends having a band of purple going around. On each end of the legs is a set of bright purple studs. She wears a sheer cape with gold studs at the end, and said cape attaches at the shoulders of the one piece suit with high quality velcro. Underneath her upper chest is a large purple belt with her family’s golden medallion on the front. Engraved on it is the sailfish’s clan crest. From the belt hangs a golden charm in the shape of a heart and is hung up with red string. On her ears is a pair of gold studded earrings with red string on the ends of each earring. Murmadia’s clothes are designer made, and are tailored to fit with only her in mind. Her more modern clothes are one of a kind and subtly opulent, funded by the fortune she was paid over time while underneath Mr. Grizz. The gold studs and gem studs are all real.

Her default ink color is a dark maroon, and her music style is Nu Funk (70’s Disco Inspired). Her instrument of choice is an alto saxophone, and her vocal range is low-medium to medium-high. Her singing style is usually a preference for gentleness and her voice is husky, but can belt notes.

PERSONALITY

Murmadia is an intelligent and calm gal, one that holds steadfast to her beliefs most of the time, her heart unwavering in the darkest hour. Her nickname is “The Sailfish Queen,” and she exudes an aura of royalty. Her presence commands attention, and she can’t help but to love it when she gets asked for autographs in public. She usually speaks for Xiphias and herself when out and about together, but tries to get him to speak his mind when important subjects come up. When on television, her sharp witted tongue often allows her to rattle off snappy one-liners when she responds to Xiphias’s jokes during their broadcasts. Because of this, they’re known for their rapid-fire dialogue that makes heads turn and people laugh. Murmadia’s voice isn’t that well known to the cephalopod world in general. However, to the world of salmonids, they know her vocals almost as much as they know breathing underwater. While she worked on Grizzco tech over the years, perfecting highly illegal weapons that would splat salmonids in seconds, oftentimes she would sing to herself. Her vocals would echo throughout the nearby shore that was the closest to Splatsville, and salmonids would be attracted to it. When they came, she would test out the weapons on them, splatting them left and right. To the salmonids, hearing Murmadia’s voice was the equivalent of hearing the reaper knock on the front door.

As the more outgoing of the two, Murmadia often brings Xiphias along with her to wherever she goes, be it to a bowling alley with her friends, or to the local coffee shop where they sit and just enjoy one another’s company. Spontaneous things are what she loves, and is very “Go with the groove” sort of person. It excites her, and keeps her going through the day. Contrary to Xiphias’s overemotional response when overwhelmed, she underreacts instead. She tries to shut off the pipeline to her emotions, and act cold instead. This can result in bottled emotions, something that her partner has noticed as of late and does his best to alleviate just by simply talking to her in private. Sometimes, all it takes is a cup of coffee and the nighttime sky to alleviate one’s stress. Her intelligence in the weapons design and bioinking department is often unmatched, even rivaling Sheldon in that department. Combined with Xiphias’s knowledge in mechanics and her bioinking knowledge, the two create unique splatfest levels with their own one-of-a kind twist of platforms and modified walls that possibly might push you off the ground and into the water. Creating such platforms is such fun for her, and she adores the concept of creating obstacles for the splatfest players to figure out and get through.

In her free time, Murmadia can be seen pouring over vintage records, looking at the music that came before her time. But unlike Xiphias, she doesn’t care to read the history. She listens to it, letting it reverberate in her body with her headphones on and letting the messages of every song that she listens to speak their minds. To her, songs aren’t just stories. They’re hopes and dreams, sadness and despair, ect. Songs are the cries of a person’s soul. They speak to one another through a deep universal bond that knits the very fabric of society together, uniting one another regardless of who or what they are. To have music is to have a conciseness in of itself. All it takes is a single note to start a spark. At least, that’s what she tells him. Asides from having her collection of vintage records that could rival an antique shop, she also has an interest in puzzles. The bigger piece count, the better. Her favorite type of puzzles are ones in the shape of butterflies. She often forgets the glue though, and often has them fall apart on her by accident. Murmadia doesn’t mind though. It just means that it’s meant to be done again in her eyes. Her favorite hobby when she has the time for it, is playing her saxophone. You can find her playing her saxophone from the top of the apartment that she and Xiphias share, and she often attracts the presence of butterflies. By the time she’s done with a session, there’s a dozen butterflies floating around her during the warm seasons of the year.

When it comes to relationships, Murmadia also stays rather quiet about her being with Xiphias. She wants to respect his shyness, but really could care less about what local Aqualonians think. It’s what her clan thinks is what worries her. Sure, both her and his clan each know about their relationship, but tension is still there to a certain extent. Both Murmadia and Xiphias each hope to find Grandma Yasmin and Grandpa Midas one day and settle the dispute between the clans for good.

BIOGRAPHY

In the country of Aquium, it is common for families of fish to adopt abandoned cephalopod newborns left at their doorstep, with no questions asked. This was a unique practice that was carried over to the Splatlands when the rivaling native New Aqualonian clans of the swordfish and sailfish immigrated there years prior. Both Xiphias and Murmadia were found at their doorsteps the same night, with the swordfish clan adopting Xiphias and the sailfish clan adopting Murmadia without any hesitation. For years, the two were raised up as rivals, both being told that the opposing side was usually up to no good, and to never trust them. While each of them were raised to be foes, they greeted the members of Deep Cut as kids, not knowing them very well but still saying hello nonetheless. Eventually the clan heads of the time, Grandma Yasmin the sailfish matriarch and Grandpa Midas the swordfish patriarch, began to work out their differences. Tensions finally started to lower, and it looked as if the feud between the two families would be settled. To celebrate, they both decided to hold a party at the swordfish mansion, which happened to fall on the date in which Xiphias and Murmadia were adopted into their respective clans. So, it was turned into a giant birthday bash where the families would sign a peace treaty and declare that they would feud no more.

Then, that night came. Inviting the clans of Deep Cut as guests, the party was going well and seemed like everything would go according to plan. But a fire broke out, and quickly swallowed the mansion. Shiver, Frye, and Big Man all made it out just fine, but not before seeing flames engulf the surroundings of Xiphias and Murmadia entirely. After the smoke cleared and the charred embers cooled down, the remains of the house were searched for all of the clan members, but none of them were found. Except for the half burned shoes of Xiphias and the partially burned scarf of Murmadia. The families were presumed to have been lost in the fire, but with the burned items, it shed hope that the heirs were still alive. After that, it became legend that the two heirs to the clans survived and were out there somewhere in the Splatlands.

After the fire, Xiphias roamed the streets with his pet feral swordfish, scavenging to get by. Then by sheer chance, an elderly jellyfish called Avgo recognized Xiphias. He was Midas’s best friend, and was heartbroken to learn of the fire. Once he realized what was in front of him, he quickly put Xiphias underneath his care and taught the young boy to be “Cody,” a nickname given to him. To Avgo, this was a safety precaution. That fire wasn’t by accident, and it meant that whoever wanted him and Murmadia gone. So, Xiphias was raised up as a teen underneath the name Cody, and did his best to blend in by wearing a fake afro wig and a pair of fake octoling teeth. This worked for years, masquerading himself as Cody and best as he could.

At the same time, Murmadia was found by a certain bear. One who felt pity for the young girl who wandered into the Grizzco building. He believed that she would grow up to be a protégé, one that he could manipulate and teach the ways of science. That bear’s name, the one that took her in? His name was Mr. Grizz. As a teen and throughout most of her adult life, she was trained to follow his orders and learn the science of weapon designing and bioinking. Promising her that if she obeyed him, she’d get her family back. All it would take is to just listen to his orders. And that’s exactly what she did. Cut off from most interactions with others and only hearing Grizz’s words brainwashed her. She was his head scientist on the illegal weapons that were sent out to Grizzco employees and the only scientist that was on his secret project. Murmadia didn’t know all of the details of this project, only being told that the main goal of the ink she was working on, dubbed “Fuzzy Ooze,” was meant to bring mammals back by rubbing it on fossils. Assuming that he meant for the ooze to bring animals such as the mythical dog back, she worked on it for days and nights, assuming that the ink would be used for good. After all, if it helped Mr. Grizz locate her family, it’d be fine, right? Then, the events of Splatoon Three main story happen. Murmadia is then left at a loss of words. Having lost her only guidance in this world, she decided to take matters into her own hands.

While Murmadia planned to spread her specially designed fuzzy ink to the rest of the world, a Splatfest was going at the same time. The theme was “Chocolate vs. Strawberry vs. Vanilla,” and Xiphias had chosen team strawberry. Deciding that it would be of no harm, he took his tri-slosher bucket and participated in a match. That match happened to be a 333x match, and his team won. Once he left for his apartment that night, some opposing team members from that battle followed him to the top of a staircase, and confronted him. They falsely accused him of cheating, and pushed him over the railing. At the same time this was going on, Frye was in the middle of the musical interlude of her solo while on her singular float. Xiphias landed on the float with a thud. Frye didn’t have time to drop him off and she had one last circle to make on the parade route. His wig slipped, and his two large tentacles of his natural hair poke out for a second before he quickly readjusted it. As well as his tentacles, his family crest poked out from underneath his sweater, glimmering in the moonlight. She noticed this, but stayed quiet. Instead, she chose to keep him on the float and told him to not fall off. Once the music started up again, the man couldn’t help himself and sang along with Frye. His apartment was right next to the area where Deep Cut would practice their vocals for each splatfest, so he knew the lyrics to Frye’s song. Surprised at first, she went along with him, and the two sang together for that loop, dancing together and having a good time. While this was going on, Shiver and Big Man noticed the two and were curious as to what was happening. After, Frye and Xiphias returned to the area with the stairs. The two got off, and she turned to face the other members. Once she turned back to introduce them to her new friend Cody, he had already disappeared. Confused, she scratched her head and shrugged it off. Once they performed in the main square for the night, she told Shiver and Big Man about what had happened and the crest she saw. Big Man recalled the symbol from when they were kids, knowing full well it was the swordfish clan crest. That meant that the legend was true. The heirs to the swordfish and sailfish clans were alive.

That following morning, Deep Cut puts out a special announcement on the news stating that they’re looking for Xiphias. Frye shows a crude drawing of him from last night, promising a handsome reward in return for finding him. The first few days turned up with no results, so they went to the Squidbeak Platoon for help. Captain Three set the new Agent Three on the case and with the help of Deep Cut, they managed to track down Xiphias, who was waiting at a train stop along with his pet feral swordfish. After an arduous train chase, they drag him back to the new desert headquarters. While they’re taking him back to their part of the desert, a family of sentient swordfish runs up to the train stop, having missed the metro. It was his clan, having hidden in the desert for years and having finally made the decision to leave for Inkopolis, they had mistimed the arrival of the train and arrived late. However, when Deep Cut passed by them, they had heard Shiver mention Xiphias’s name and followed them straight away. But when they had gotten there, he, Agent Three, and Deep Cut were already long gone. Murmadia, having caught wind of Xiphias being alive, wanted to catch him herself. But when she arrived at the halted train, she found the perfect bait for him instead.

Xiphias continued to claim ignorance and pretended he was Cody. So, while Agent Three located the source of the fuzzy ooze with Deep Cut that was littering the desert area, Murmadia set up her sprinkler device at the top of the human-made tower that is seen in the introduction to Splatoon Three. Not only did she kidnap the swordfish clan, she also kidnapped DJ Octavio and Craig Cuttlefish, in an attempt to bait the Squidbeak platoon to come to her in revenge for what had happened to Mr. Grizz. Eventually, Agent Three gets to the top of the tower, and has a showdown with Murmadia while a jar filled with fuzzy ooze sits in the background. Watching the fight emotionally moves Xiphias and as he tears up, he spots a familiar sight, trapped in a cage with their instruments. It was his family. Knowing that he can’t deny it any longer, the man takes his wig off and exposes his real hair. He blows a whistle, and his pet feral swordfish runs underneath Agent Three, letting the agent ride him. Xiphias slips off his enormous sweater, revealing that he was wearing another outfit underneath the whole time. He calls out to his family, and tells them to start playing. Leaping onto an inkrail, he jumps onto a platform that is opposite from Murmadia’s side. The two start singing and while they sing, Murmadia tries to fight Agent Three. Halfway through the battle she stops singing and begins to cry, stating that he had his family, and she just wanted hers back. He responds that it didn’t have to be this way. What Grizz told her was lies, and that the ooze she had designed would have dire consequences for the entire world. She stumbled back, shocked at what he was saying. He then asked her if she’d want her family to see her like this. Murmaida folds, and realizes what she was doing would end the world as a whole.

Murmadia pulled out a remote to turn the tower off, but it didn’t work. Instead, the jar inside the tower shook and shattered. What came out was a huge, fuzzy monster ball of tentacles and squid limbs. Beady eyes then stare out from the fur, and it roars. The monster ball then turned around and shook the tower. The giant sprinkler came falling down, nearly landing on both Xiphias and Murmadia. Xiphias pushed her out of the way and the two jumped off of the platform. Both land on the platform that’s behind Agent Three. Murmadia presses another button on the remote and a set of five inkrails come out from underneath the platform. Agent Three leaps off of the feral swordfish and lands on the middle inkrail. While Agent Three took on the fight with the oozing monster ball, the two clan heirs sang together in a song that combined both of their musical styles. Once the agent was done with the monster, they landed back on the platform. Both Xiphias and Murmadia step up in front of the Agent, and sing one last verse. The monster is defeated, and all that is left is what to do now that Murmadia had changed sides and the sailfish clan was found.

The Squidbeak Platoon had initially suggested stuffing Murmadia into a snowglobe like Octavio, but Xiphias proposed something else. Instead, the two could stay together in the same city and he’d be able to report back if anything were to go ary. Agreeing to this, the both of them resided in the same apartment in Splatsville for the next couple months, with the swordfish clan right across the hall in the apartment complex. During that time period, the two ended up becoming a duo and quietly a couple, then naming their group “Sodden Pulse.” As time went on, they slowly began to make a name for themselves in the area and signed onto Kraken Records, a company owned by Xiphias’s newly discovered blood-related uncle, Leviathan. With him as their producer, the two rose in popularity, soon becoming idols that were starting to become well known in Splatsville. Eventually, Leviathan managed to find the sailfish family, and bring them home to Murmadia.

Then one day, out of the blue, Murmadia and Xiphias received a call from Big Man, asking for a favor. Deep Cut wanted to go on vacation for a week and needed someone to fill in their spots as television hosts. The two pounced on the opportunity, and quickly set up their own temporary set where Deep Cut’s usually resided. For the first half of the week the two ran the show just fine, with no hitches involved. Then a splatfest announcement occurred, shocking the both of them. But it was decreed by the great machine from the gods that they had to go through with it, so they did. The theme was “Cowboys vs. Aliens,” and they had until Sunday to prepare. Xiphias and Murmadia went back to their families, unsure of what to do. They didn’t have anything fancy like Deep Cut’s parade floats…or did they? When they went to ask their respective clans for help, they already had concocted a plan. For the splatfest, a pair of party towers were built, each with a swordfish and sailfish on it. The two could combine and form a party platform for the both of them to dance together on top of. And so, when the night came, they both sang and danced their hearts out, happier than ever. When it was over, they went to bed with full hearts. The next morning, they did the morning broadcast one last time to announce the results. Aliens had won and after they finished their last announcement, they handed the reins back over to Deep Cut that following afternoon.

As they were on their way back from the plaza and to the local coffee shop, Xiphias’s uncle came up on his motorcycle, saying that they had a job offer. He explained it to them. The bay area of New Aqualona had accidentally wired into Sodden Pulse’s performance that night over the airwaves, and had not only fallen in love with the news segment the two provided, but the performance that they had given last night as well. The entire city was demanding to have them on air, and the local news producers had contacted him to give them the offer. It was a dream offer, really. But it came with a catch. New Aqualona was located off the coast of Aquium, a country that was on the other side of the globe. Both of them would have to drop their lives in Splatsville in order to go. But they were born and raised Splatlandians through and through, making it a difficult decision. They told Leviathan that they’d have an answer for him that night.

Once again, the two went to their families for advice. But when they got to their apartment, they were in for a surprise. The clans had already packed their things in a moving truck, had all piled in the sailfish family’s van, and they were waiting on the couple to say yes. They didn’t mind moving if it meant that their heirs could be on air. In the driver’s seat of Xiphias’s vintage reefstang sat Avgo, waiting for the two to climb in. Murmaida took out her phone to call Leviathan, but he had already shown up on his motorcycle, ready to lead them all to the boat. With that, the two said goodbye to Splatsville, and said hello to New Aqualona. Ever since then, they have been running the news there as the main idols, eager to show everyone a good time with their music

TRIVIA

  • Murmadia’s name is derived directly from the word “Murmur,” given that her voice is soft, and was unheard amongst the crowds of Grizzco workers while working underneath Mr. Grizz.
  • Murmadia is the granddaughter of MC Seaweed, the last queen of the inkling empire before the inklings adopted a democratic government. She’s never met her, but found out through rumors that she’s still alive. One day, she hopes to meet Seaweed just as Xiphias has met Octavio, and see what her blood related family really is.
  • Murmadia’s sailfish clan consists of the following: Javari (Grandpa), Yasmin (Grandma), Daisy (Mother), Aston (Father), Molly (Eldest Sister), and Poppy (Middle Sister). Everyone but grandma Yasmin has been found, and she’s still looking for the matriarch to this day.
  • Murmadia has a giant teddy bear in her bedroom, and likes to collect stuffed plush toys, or “Plushies,” as she affectionately calls them. Her favorite one is a starfish shaped plush that was gifted to her by Xiphias when they went on their first date together
  • Murmadia has a video channel online where she uploads random try-on videos of different outfits and shoes she purchases off of shady websites, giving a humorous take on the fashion industry as a whole while Xiphias provides commentary in the background. With her knowledge on the fashion industry and his knowledge on sewing garments and cobbling shoes, they like to take the shoddy outfits and give them a glow-up.
  • Xiphias has a pet feral swordfish named Scales. Scales is an older pet, but still has spunk in him. He is half of project seven of the humans, with the two’s experiment topic being on anti-gravity. He’s able to swim in the air as if it’s nothing. Murmadia also has an older pet feral sailfish, who is also the other half of project seven of the humans and is able to do the same thing. His name is Fish. They are both incredibly intelligent, but pretend that they aren’t the brightest pets, so that way they have a warm place to sleep. If push came to shove, they’d reveal their true nature, but at the moment see no reason to do so. Both Scales and Fish have grown attached to the clans over time, and have been there since the formation of each one. Both also are mutated in size and are very large.
  • Murmadia’s best friend is an octoling named Isis. Isis once saved Inkopolis from being destroyed by a rogue AI that was designed by humans, and ended up becoming close friends with Murmadia after the two both stumbled for a vintage record at the local music shop.
  • Murmadia has a mild form of ADHD.
