quote or title here

A young mage who grew up in a family who did their best to hide his magic, believing him to be better off never using it, a view he did not agree with. After an incident during which he saved his younger sister using his magic, he and his parents fought terribly, and Kazrael left for Namarast. He sought out the Order to enroll to become a Mage Protector, and has held a bright blue flame between his antlers ever since he learned enough control to do so.

A reminder from where he came, and a declaration of pride for who he is today. He does not douse himself for just anyone, nor will he do so lightheartedly.

Personality

Kezrael is an opinionated young mage with a sharp tongue and a restless heart. He wishes to do good in the world, to protect others using the flame within him- both those magical and emotional. A stag of a bleeding heart, he holds in him a soft spot for youngsters and animals, the innocent creatures of the world who deserve no cruelty. So, too, can he be stubborn, and protective, perhaps even possessive at times. Those he turns his back to have the greatest chance to hurt him, as he has learned, and he can be standoffish towards strangers because of it, unwilling to let himself again be broken.

History

Kezrael was born to a humble family of farmers, along with his twin sister Keroza. His family had no history of powerful magic, and no desire otherwise.
"Just some down-to-earth folk," His father would say to passers-by commenting on the state of the Mage Order. "We don't need any of that around here. We get on just fine." And they did, for a time. Their family was happy- at least, until Kezrael's magic had manifested itself. "It's bound to bring trouble," his mother would say, worrying the ground with her hoof, speaking to his father when she thought he was asleep. He was told to hide his magic, to bind it away and never use it, all to keep his family safe. Kezrael did not agree, not really, but what choice did he have? So he hid.

That is, until he was sixteen, and Keroza was attacked by a wolf while tending some of the fields. They were alone, without help, and Kezrael's antlers were just coming in. He charged the beast, and was tossed aside. Just as the wolf was about to snap it's jaws around his sister's throat, his magic reacted, scoring the beast across the flank with his sapphire flame. Finally, Father arrived, just in time to see the beast running off, and to scold Kezrael for using his magic, claiming he could have killed Keroza or set their fields ablaze.

Kezrael told him that if he hadn't, Keroza would have been killed. His father didn't believe him, or didn't care. They fought until Keroza begged them to stop, flinching away from Kezrael. Seeing nothing but fear and pain in their eyes, Kezrael ran. He ran for another village, and collected himself, making the long trek towards Namarast. The Mage-Tower would surely be the best shot he had for training his magic. Thus, he enrolled himself in the Mage Order, and recently graduated as a fully-trained Mage Protector.

A spectral blue flame that may be used to harm or heal, depending on the intent of the wielder. The later ability is more difficult for Kezrael to manage. His magic is tuned to his emotions, with his normal spitfire personality lending itself more readily to the harmful facet of his power. With feelings of care, trust, concern or sorrow, however, it's healing properties may show themselves.

Actively using his magic can cause Kezrael's mood to swing wildly, especially when he is using the flame to do harm. As his anger feeds it, his magic only pushes him to become more furious. This feedback loop can get quite disasterous if Kezrael lets it slip too far out of his control.

Costs

  • Magic use has a short-term adverse effect on the caster's mood/frame of mind. (Magic strengthens and feeds the emotions fuelling it.)
  • Magic is weakened under specific circumstances. (Magic is dependant on Kezrael's emotional state.)
