☮️  Awkward, meek, cautious  ☮️

A teenager who's kind of got the odds against him.

Laurie is a lean teenager who holds himself sort of awkwardly. He has shaggy brown hair, thick eyebrows, dark, baggy eyes, and a medium-sized nose. His nose and cheeks are smattered in freckles. He wears braces, and is very self-conscious about them, so he usually tries to keep his mouth closed as often as possible. He often wears buttoned shirts and sweater vests appropriate of 70's fashion, brown corduroy flares, and brown moccasin-type shoes. Adding to his gawkiness, he's a late bloomer and comes from a family of short people. He still looks quite young for his age, and is smaller than a lot of his classmates. He is 5'3".

Laurie is pretty much the definition of a wallflower. He's awkward, pretty clumsy, and hates going out of his comfort zone. He's very quiet and doesn't like being called on in class. He's also kinda nerdy, likes learning about things he's interested in, and takes pride in being called "smart". He can sometimes have a bit of an ego, and can come off as conceited in some ways. He's not overly fearful or nervy, or clinically anxious, but rather just stricken by social anxiety more often than not. He still likes to hang around people and be part of groups. He doesn't like having to take risks or do embarassing things, preferring to stay on the sidelines and out of the spotlight. He's rather self-conscious and easily takes notice when he makes mistakes or gets flustered. He doesn't like being wrong, especially in arguments, and can be competitive.

Laurie's story takes place in Calgary, Canada, in the late 1970's (specifically 1979). Laurie is in his second-to-last high school year, and can't wait to be done with teenage life.

Laurie was born in Calgary, Alberta, to a middle-class family on September 7, 1962. Laurie is the youngest son in a family of four. His father, John, worked in the engineering field. His mother, Eliza, was a schoolteacher. Laurie has an older brother by three years named David (Dave for short). The family were quite ordinary but well-respected in their neck of the woods. Laurie has a fine relationship with his parents, and got along very well with Dave.
