Talessa is an arcane serpent whom haunts an ancient library, driving knowledge seekers to madness to protect the secrets inside.

Once a revered icon of an ancient mystical library; Talessa was loved by many of its patrons. She fed off of wayward magic and the strong emotions these ancient tomes drew forth from their readers. She was both curator and protector of these halls of knowledge, and maintained it well alongside her beloved mate: Jazeeri. There was a balance enjoyed by both serpents and sorcerers.

Yet not all whom seek knowledge do so for academic purposes. After hundreds of peaceful years Talessa let her duties falter, for she had other concerns: mainly the egg warmly nestled in Jazeeri's sleeping form. And it was in this brief period of time that disaster struck. With no serpent around to bar those hungry for power from the library, a wizard became ensnared in dark magic to sate his lust for power. By the time the serpents found out it was too late. Patrons had been enthralled by this dark sorcerer, turning against the serpents in an effort to take full control of the library and its eldritch knowledge.

Talessa fought bravely but was ultimately bound by runes, trapped in place to watch horrors unfurl. As she watched her mate be slain and her egg stolen something snapped inside of her. Fire burned brightly from her spines as the runic circle around her burst. In a fit of rage she slaughtered those enthralled, innocents ensnared by foul magics, rushing after the one responsible. When she met him in the inner sanctum of the library, it was once again too late. All life and magic had been siphoned from the egg. A lifeless black shell was all that remained. The wizard was nowhere to be found.

Bound by grief and loss, Talessa became malicious, wandering these ancient halls as punishment for her failure. Instead of feeding gently on the emotions of the library's former patrons she now drains any fool whom dares enter her domain. Their fears, paranoia, guilt, or desires are hers to manipulate, driving new knowledge seekers to insanity before they can wreak havoc. No one can be trusted. Not anymore.
