Maybe in and out of jail because of insistence on learning more about the outside world, mother used as black mail to stop her search. (this could be to keep control but maybe in searching the outside world it would say something about the tyrant, what is he hiding?)
In rp they were painted as a loser that was trying to find some power in people weaker than them. Views the dome as his reward for working hard for marines (ex pirate working under marines to not be attacked? Or marine gone pirate after not getting the recognition they feel they deserve: Dome is their way of hiding(?))
