STORY
Personality
Dimitri is hard to catch off guard. When you have as much power and resources as her, what's there to be afraid of? She's extremely confident and usually fairly polite - no need to be rude as a defense when you're more than capable of backing up your words. Harsh words tend to bounce off of her - big talk from little men.
It's not impossible to make her mad, however - though it's likely something you'd wish to avoid. When the levity drops and she becomes serious, she goes from deadly to lethal. She's never had to use the full extent of her magic - maybe don't give her a reason to!
Childhood
On the outskirts of town, in a tiny shack, a young Florence grew up dirt poor and with very little. Her mother was well-known for being a crazy old woman - always sitting around and talking about her sordid love affair with the duke. She would hold up Florence before the townspeople and cry that she was proof, and the villagers would laugh it off. Being a succilin does not royalty make, after all.
But there was one person who believed her mother, and it was Florence. She would listen to her mother's tales of the palace - of forbidden love and backstabbing betrayal. When the Duke's child was born, and the villages celebrated the birth of the next heir, her mother scowled in their room, shaking her head.
"That's your birthright, dear."
Her birthright. Florence's eyes sparkled. And what was stopping her? On her thirteenth birthday she left home, applying to the castle and getting hired on as a maid. She was well accustomed to cleaning and blended in with the waitstaff, waiting for her moment to get close to the young Duchess. Once she had worked her way up to being in a room alone with her, she told the young Belmont everything.
Belmont's reaction was to laugh at her, and then use her powers of command to force Florence to dance around the room. Indignance flooded Florence's veins. After everything she had been through - this pompous brat wouldn't even hear her out!! She stormed out of the room, leaving the castle behind her. Her plan to get in hadn't worked. She frowned.
A title wasn't the only thing Belmont had - it's what she wanted, but more than that - her powers of command, the magic- Florence's eyes lit up. Yes, power was what she needed. She needed magic.
And since she wasn't born blessed, she would have to find another way.
A Dark Power
After years of travel and study, Florence, now fifteen, sat at the center of a summoning circle. The runes around her began to glow as her knife sliced open the throat of a sheep. The blood spilled into the soil, before it began bubbling - frothing up, until a dark form emerged from the blood, long horns and glowing white eyes.
Florenced promised him kingdoms - empires, in exchange for his power. The demon rejected these offers, however - in exchange for power, he only wanted her soul. "This is power's terrible price," he said, staring through her with those glowing eyes.
A soul was not something that held as much value to her, so she agreed.
In a moment, her body was enveloped in darkness - transforming her, her wings ripping from her back, her horns spurting out further from her skull - she screamed in pain until she fell to the earth, feeling something had been burned into her chest. Staring into the blood, she dimly saw her reflection. One thing was for sure - she definitely was not a Milqilin any longer.
By her side was a final gift from the demon - a large, glittering sword, covered in thorns and roses. Pulling herself off the ground, Florence picked it up. At first, it burned to the touch - some ancient power radiating off from it. She grasped it firmly, enveloping herself in her power.
Dimitrius, she heard the demon hiss, his voice richoeting around from inside her brain. A dark presence surrounded her, grasping her hands around the sword's hilt. You shall be my Knight of Roses.
Dimitrius put a hand over the mark on her chest. "I will not let you down."
The Come-Up
After years spent honing her magic, storming a duchess' castle as a one-woman army was hardly a challenge. The pathetic militia lay pinned to the walls, as Dimitri kicked down the familiar door to Belmont's chambers.
The young succilin had enough sense to recognize in this situation, she was fucked. Roses bloomed around Dimitri, firing off swords to perfectly outline the girl against the wall. The terror in the girl's eyes was delightful - finally, all her hard work was paying off.
"What the hell do you want?!" the girl shrieked.
It would be immensely satisfying to kill her now - however, Dimitri had learned the value of power. And as much as she misused it, Belmont had a great power - one she was unable to match in her studies. It was a power that should serve her.
"Not powerful enough," Dimitri laughed, grabbing Belmont by the collar. "Come with me, you little twerp, I have a kingdom to reclaim!"
It seems that Dimitri had made a miscalculation, however - as Belmont quickly used her magic to escape Dimitri's grasp. Ah, the price of overconfidence. She secured the castle, sparing the waitstaff and turning her sights to the King of this land.
How could Duchess ever be enough for her?
It didn't take long for her swords to befell the kingdom's defenses - sitting atop the throne, she now had more than she dreamed of as a child - a throne, a crown, and an entire kingdom of subjects. From the bottom to the top - finally, she had real power.
But it wasn't enough. She wanted more.
She travelled from nearby kingdom to kingdom - slaughtering armies and royalty in droves, collecting powerful beings like trinkets. A witch, locked away for evil? Simple enough to break the seal and offer her a new deal. A beautiful angel of death? Simple enough to seduce her into marriage, use her powers over life and death to her own ends. A useless little doll of a floraccilin she found while securing a kingdom? Too pretty to throw away - maybe her sister would enjoy a sleeper agent in her entourage. No matter how much she had, there was always room for more, right?
"When will you be satisfied?!" a queen shrieks at her. "When you have the entire planet?" Truthfully, she hasn't thought that far. But she smirks as the sword hovers above the woman's throat.
"Why stop there?"
Trivia
- Her main magic attack is the ability to conjure roses that bloom into swords. There is no limit to the amount of swords she can conjure and pilot at once - filling the air with a hailstorm of death from above.
- She has a handful of spells she can cast on the battlefield, and a good amount more that require a circle and some materials. There are many things she cannot do, but she seeks to fill those gaps.
- Used a lovespell to curry her wife's favour. Despite this, she did wind up genuinely falling in love with her.
- Loves spicy food. Usually has a bottle of sriracha on her.
- Tends to spare civilians and castle workers. It's not a huge thing for her - if they try anything, it's not hard to kill them, but not only is a civilian populace more welcoming to an invading tyrant who didn't slaughter their entire family - she also remembers what it was like :) Rest assured, she still sees them beneath her, however.
- Fairly good ruler, which is the worst part.
