Cuveth grew up as a commoner in the Underdark- an unpleasant station that doomed him to a life of servitude. After nearly a century of misery, he made his way to the surface to carve out a new life away from the restrictive one that had been set out for him. The surface was quite the culture shock at first, but it was a world that had what he was looking for: one where everyone had a more equal shot at a decent place in life (though he did find that people tended to be wary around drow in particular).

He has done a lot of traveling- first to try to get used to the very different world he was now living in, and then because he'll go to wherever the money is best, which frequently involves moving around a lot. Despite the general bias against drow, Cuveth has kept fairly regular employment by being willing to work just about anywhere (as long as the price is right). He also has a lot of skills and abilities that aren't found as frequently on the surface, and he uses those to his advantage. He does have a house of his own, but he still spends most of his time away from it for better paying jobs.

These days, he's most over the culture shock - since it has been centuries - but Cuveth is pretty upset that despite now having spent the majority of his life on the surface, his eyes still hate the sun. He's had a couple long term partners over the years, but never anything serious enough to settle down with them, and the idea of that much commitment isn't appealing to him. His wry, sarcastic humor usually goes over people's heads, but those who get it find Cuveth very funny. He feels like he's too old for putting up with bullshit - mostly overly energetic people - but as far as elves go, he's just around middle aged.

Cuveth hasn't been back to the Underdark in a very long time - not since he first left - because it's a life he left behind for a reason, and he has no interest in looking back at it. He said "fuck you" to the entire culture when he left, and he's not some sort of rebel leader trying to find followers to help him enact change. If other people want a better life, they can change the world.
