Profile

My new D&D character - a half-orc ranger. Born of a political union between an orcish tribal princess and a human earl and raised among humans. Her father found her disturbing and slightly embarrassing, her mother longed for a truly orcish companion in her exile among humans - but Volen pleased neither of them. At twelve, when her father suggested a betrothal, she took her bow, her horse Essa, and left. She aimed only to travel as far away from civilisation as she could. She journeyed deep into the wilds. It was not an easy life, but it suited her - away from the strict manners and cloistered homes of humans, but also free of the mindless violence and conquest of orcs. She loved nature for its wildness and its beauty. She once saved Esoi, transformed into a wolf at the time, from a hunter's trap. The two later became lovers. While they both went their own way, they meet occasionally.

Volen and her companions, Kathra and Thaddeus, were abducted by the god of trickery to participate in a huge ongoing competition - a fight between teams to the death. Half training, half blood sport, the competition is intended to forge the god's new champions. While not against the idea (nor the wealth and treasures they win thereby), Volen wearies of her master's theatrics and terrible sense of humour.

Volen is articulate, but brutally honest and not inclined to ramble or chat for no reason. She despises theatrics (no matter how much Thaddeus and Kathra indulge in them), and keeps her mind on the task at hand at all times. She is a keen strategist, always putting her own safety above heroics, always the last woman standing no matter who falls around her, always back among the shadows with an arrow notched.
