Cain used to be human and was a worker in one of the factories that produced and distributed live batteries before everything collapsed. His body and mind was a host to a creature called Vermin which is a core manifestation of one's being, his death resulted in his Vermin taking on a physical form due to him perishing away, but because his connection with his being was strong it built him a new body from scraps of biomass and debris before truly leaving him to roam above the material realm.
Frequently experiences precognitive dreams, Cain's mind is split into two timelines due to his physically manifesting Vermin (the Beast), therefore in his dreams he is living the life of the Beast that exists in the future, it roams the veil that tethers reality to the subconscious and from the connection with Cain it is able to relay its visions into his dreams. He can hear the Beast's thoughts if it let's him and it too can hear his if he let's it, he struggles to understand what it thinks most of the time as the information it gives are a jumbled, rapid firing amalgam of words but he still tries to rephrase them into a comprehensive language. Even though his mind is split both beings are still one of the same.
