ABOUT

A gentle soul who never quite lost his child-like wonder, Binks is a pangolin who stayed true to himself. He's inquisitive, patient and surprisingly adventurous for a man his age. He likes to learn of the world around him and loves to share the knowledge he collected over the years with others. Make no mistake however, he's not nearly as naive as he lets on.

Behind the soft smile he's always thinking. Always analyzing. He tries to pin down the reasons why people act the way they do. Not out of anything malicious, really, but it's his want to understand others and see where they're coming from. Binks is not quick to write people off as someone not to care for, especially not from a bad first impression.

Overall it's his firm belief that people are never one note, and if they make themselves out to be, there's always a reason as to why.

HISTORY

It is difficult to summarize the life of a man as old as I, but I will do my best.

I was born right here in Corona City to a loving pair of teachers. My years as a child were as simple as you could make it; spent playing with the locals and going to school. Yes, my parents were my teachers. No, it did not mean they favoured me in my classes. Quite the opposite in fact; they expected more from me, not because they were harsh, but because they believed in my ability to surpass whatever challenge they gave me. I credit much of my thirst of knowledge to them.

This thirst for knowledge transformed into a dream to travel; to learn of the world beyond this city. So, come adulthood, I left. For years I hopped between city to city. Pliding, Gulsey, Ariven, back to Corona, like an ever-going cycle. I became a messenger between friends, took some courses because I could- did you know I was the top of my fencing class? I still have my sword with me.

I met the love of my life. Funnily enough, he was also a traveler, but he went clockwise instead of counter-clockwise. We wouldn't have run into each other had it not been for a mutual friend telling him to stay a bit longer to meet me.

We travelled together for a time before settling back in Corona when my parents passed away. I wanted to open a bookshop, you see, as it gave us the opportunity to tell the stories of our travels, like the fantastic displays of the performances we watched. Or the one time my partner fell off the boat pulling a net of fish heavier than himself.

Few more years pass of running the store, and he fell into an eternal sleep as well. Such is the ever-moving passage of time.

And here we are. With me, taking care of the store to this day, with storytelling sessions daily at 4pm. I thought this was to be how my tale would continue and yet... Lately, there has been some inkling of doubt in the back of my mind.

In all the years of my life, the stories regarding the barrier have been told time and again. Of how Lord Ansel erected it to protect us from the dangers of the outside world. And I pray to thank him for that everyday but... Is it not strange, for me to call myself a traveller when I have only been around Reverie? To say I have been everywhere, and to not count the outside of the shield as part of that everywhere?

Sorry Lord Ansel, forgive me.

SPELLS

HOUSE OF DIVINE MYSTERIES

Chosen by Senka, Mother of Magic

Dancing Lights

House of Lyrical Enchantment

Learned as an aid to his storytelling and as a way to entertain children, Binks can summon floating lights that form anything from figures to entire scenes. If the lights are merged densely enough, they can be used to create platforms and to deflect attacks.

Portals

House of Divine Mysteries

Binks can summon two portals midair or on surfaces within his line of sight, transporting anything that goes through one portal to the other. If he closes them mid-use, the item in the portal is forced to the side most of its body is in, or is severed if that item is stuck on both sides.

Pocket Spell

Grand Palace of Astral Harmony

Pocket Spell allows Binks to capture another spell in an orb and withhold its effects for a later time. The longer the wait, the stronger the withheld spell will be once it's released. However, the longer the spell is held, the more likely it is for it to break its containment, unleashing itself to the world in an explosion of whatever element the spell was.

Not everything is as they seem, young one.

TRIVIA

  • Was once a stenographer, so he can keep up with conversations quite well!
  • He can't sweat, so it's easy for him to overheat.
  • He uses his tail as a portable stool.
