This slim, smooth-furred Malleeclan apprentice has nimble paws, a feathery tail, large ears and a narrow muzzle. A chocolate coat covers his back, tail and face, and a similar-coloured sock can be found on his front left paw. Rootpaw has a triangular white marking on his muzzle and a white chest.

Rootpaw is as in tune with water as his mainly aquatic clanmates. Being a Malleeclan cat automatically means he is trained in hunting and fighting using the water.

An excitable feline, Rootpaw finds it easy to get excited about something, often annoying his clanmates with his enthusiasm. He is also courageous, brave and gallant, willing to do anything for his clan. That ties into his strong loyalty, the connection he feels to Malleeclan. However, this apprentice is sarcastic, always ready to deliver a snarky comment or two. He loves having fun, and often sneaks out of camp or breaks the warrior code in order to entertain himself and others. Rootpaw is also free-wheeling, preferring to work alone and without company. However, this apprentice is clumsy, always disrupting others and accidentally ruining carefully stocked herbs, to the annoyance of others. He is rather annoying, although he doesn’t do it on purpose; his actions and habits just annoy everyone around him. Finally, Rootpaw is snappy, and has a short temper; he takes everything as an insult.

Chapter One

Despite being a Malleeclan feline, Rootpaw was not born there. In fact, he was born to a pair of rogues living near the abandoned docks. However, during a flash flood, young Root was swept away downstream, and ended up in a river near Malleeclan’s camp. He was renamed Rootkit, and was taken in by an elderly couple, before their deaths. He mourns his adoptive parents and has dedicated himself to being the best warrior possible, in their honour.
