Nala

• 100% galran, 110% done with zarkon’s bullshit

• nala was raised the only child of a respectable, middle-class galran family. her mother and father were both soldiers at one point in time; her dad was honorably discharged after losing his leg, her mom retired at a reputable rank after becoming pregnant. 10,000% a daddy’s girl, idolizes the shit out of him, would lay down on live train tracks without a second thought tbh. She gtows up on tales of the empire’s valiant heroism; and decides to follow in her father’s footsteps to becomes a solider.

• after years of training and proving herself to her superiors, nala becomes something of a licensed bounty hunter/hitwoman. she’s a problem solver; if an individual or group becomes an issue for the empire, nala’s job is to neutralize the issue. she’s exceedingly good at what she does, and has earned something of a reputation with her high levels of success. that said, she is tired my dude. head-hunting can wear on a person with a conscience, and unfortunately she can’t seem to shake hers. she's been choking down her own moral code for the last two years— i.e. since she started doing more extensive field work. she can’t seem to find a reason to justify zarkon’s lion witch hunt, or the fleet’s tendency to devour planets alive. has a lot of conflicted feelings and gnawing guilt over doing nothing re: knowing that zarkon is wrong in this war. she feels loyal to the galra because she is galra— because its her family, her culture, all she's ever known— but this? an empire willing to cannibalize itself for the sake of glory? this isn’t the great empire she envisioned in her childhood stories.

• stoic as hell, very rarely breaks her “i have everything under control” visage. fantastic under pressure; agile fighter, extraordinarily skilled at hand-to-hand combat (in fact, she vastly prefers it), could probably bench press at least two paladins at once. is a laughably bad shot; is infamous amongst her co-workers as probably the worst gunwoman in all the galra fleet.

• resents voltron for what its done to her people/their leader, but understands that its just about the only thing in the galaxy that has the potential to undo what zarkon has done. tries really hard to keep that in mind, but boy is that hatred stronk. resents, by extension, the paladins but to a vastly lesser degree. where she fights the urge to slam dunk the lions into the sun on the daily, she can tolerate its paladins.

• tends to be more logical than emotional, but that certainly isn’t set in stone. she’s very honor-driven (despite her profession), and is prone to making choices based on a mixture of reason and intuition. underneath the ifinite layers of hostility and icy stares is a genuine, good person. nala is quick to inform that she's hardly in need of friends, but don’t believe her. this angry space-cat is predictably squishy and gentle. she just puts on a reeeeeally convincing front.
