Ghost has been homeless from the start. With no memories of any parents or home, he learned to survive on his own from a very young age. By age 6, he learned how to stealthily take food from the local stores. By age 7, he learned how to cook meat over a small fire so as not to get sick. It was a few months before his 8th birthday that he got caught stealing food from a local restaurant by the head chef. Taking pity of him, said chef decided to take him in instead of calling the authorities. Having been nameless until then, too, the chef named him Ghost, because he was always quiet and he resembled a spirit more than a kid. Ghost learned everything about cooking from him, working with him at the restaurant in exchange for food and shelter. However, their companionship didn't last long; that same year the head chef fell terribly ill, and before passing away, appointed Ghost as the new head chef of the restaurant.

It was when he was taking the trash out one night after closing that he came upon a strange girl eating some food they had thrown away earlier that day. After she stated that she was just hungry and would not harm him, she introduced herself as Calliope. She explained that she had ran away from home and was living on the streets, and Ghost couldn't help but see some of himself in her. He took her inside and cooked her a good meal, and soon the two of them grew close. Having grown tired of the monotony of his life, Ghost offered her a deal: that he would feed her if she took him on adventures with her. She agreed, and the two have been inseparable since then.

During their teenage years, they met Draven, who was part of the Marines then. Despite their circumstances, the three of them became friends, only to be separated when Draven was sent somewhere else. Years later, they would meet again, and him and Calliope would join Draven's new-founded crew: the Phantom Pirates.

The Shi Shi no Mi

It was during one of his expeditions with Calliope that Ghost came across a devil fruit. They had adventured inside a pirate ship, whose crew was known to be dangerous and lethal. While they were rummaging through chests, Ghost found an odd-looking fruit, with a pitch black color and a smooth texture. He identified it as a devil fruit, but their exploration was interrupted by the pirate crew coming back to the ship when they least expected it. In hopes that he could finally protect Calliope instead of the other way around, Ghost took a bite of the fruit and stood his ground against the crew, but alas, nothing had changed; no new abilities or powers. He felt exactly the same, with the only trace the devil fruit had left in his body being the bitter taste in his mouth. Calliope managed to get them out of there unscathed with the help of Parasite (see her page for more information), but Ghost was more disappointed and frustrated than scared. He didn't find out what the devil fruit had done to him until he held his pet rat Gazpacho, and it died in his hands after a moment.

The Shi Shi no Mi was a paramecia type devil fruit which granted its user the power to take years off any living creature's life through physical contact, Ghost had discovered. Not only that, but also that direct skin-to-skin contact with his hands was needed to trigger it. It took him years to really figure out the extents of his ability, and to avoid accidentally triggering it, he began wearing gloves to avoid direct touch. As of now, Ghost relies on raw strength instead of his power for fighting, which he only uses in dire cases.

Life taker, life giver.

Just how he can take life, he can give it as well, but the process is much harder and it takes a great toll on him. He can revive the dead by giving years off of his own life, but since Ghost cannot know how long his own lifespan is, this is a risky thing to do. The cost of reviving someone or something depends on the mass of the being; reviving a small creature wouldn't cost much, but the revival of a person or bigger creatures takes years from his life and terribly drains him. Because of this, Calliope has forbidden him to use it.

• Ghost has a pet rat named Gazpacho, which he befriended when he was 7. It used to sleep under his chef hat while he worked.
• Has a habit of tying his hair up when cooking.
• The skeleton pattern on his skin is natural; he developed it after eating the devil fruit.
• He wears gloves because of his ability.
• Direct skin to skin contact with his hands is needed in order for his power to activate, and it works faster if he uses both hands.
• Though Ghost cannot tell speficically how long someone's lifespan is, by touching them he can tell if it's long or short.
• The amount of life he takes depends on how much time the contact lasts and how much is being made. For instance, touching someone with a finger wouldn't do much, but touching them with both hands would take years off their life.
• He's the tank of the crew despite his ability not being fight-based. He's just crazy strong naturally.
• The only time he used his ability to resurrect someone was to bring Gazpacho back to life after he had accidentally killed it.
• Gazpacho is still alive to this day. Its favorite spots to hang out are Ghost's shoulders or in his hair. Sometimes it will sleep in the pocket of his kitchen apron.
• Protective of his fellow crew members, though he doesn't really show it.
