Silvane

Ancient archivist and loathed exile; Silvane has been the target of his former country's propoganda for hundreds of years. After spearheading a revolution and attempting to assassinate the emperor, he was apprehended and banished, and is now beset by a neverending stream of chosen ones. The country declares him an evil wizard, desiring to spread dark, forbidden magics throughout the world that only exist to hurt people.

Silvane lives alone (save for a family of housemice) atop a bordering mountain in a mazelike wizard's tower, collecting and safeguarding all of the knowledge he can get his hands on - especially magic. Silvane may very well be the last person in the world who knows the true extent of magic's capabilities save for the same emperor he tried to kill.

His life remains fairly routine with castle upkeep and the stray chosen one attempting to break in and kill him. He's under no illusion that his life-threatening puzzle castle is remotely kind nor moral, but has made up his mind that his duty is protecting what knowledge he has at all costs until a new generation is able to take over, and he cannot allow even teenage chosen ones to sabotage his efforts. It's maybe a moment of weakness when he spares Clarity's life, the first chosen in many years to make it into the tower itself, but in the end Silvane does not regret it.

Silvane is cold and cryptic and talks like shakespeare but its mostly because he's old and bitter. He longs for human contact and any kind of relationship but fears the risk. His rebellion inside has dried up as he's built the walls thicker and thicker around himself and might even admit to some growing paranoia.
