Angel Lazarov

Angel comes across as rather large and intimidating, but in reality his stoic façade has been crafted by years of hardship. He desires to love and be loved, particularly from a standpoint of mutual understanding, and cares deeply for those who are important to him.

His manner of speaking is quite short, stilted, and blunt. Once he opens up to someone, though, he becomes more of a classic himbo. He isn't very expressive facially, but his use of general body language usually makes up for what his expression lacks. In a verbal fight, he's much more likely to give in or walk away than to speak his mind, which can be frustrating for the other party.

Angel may at first seem like an active and engaged warrior and, whilst this is true in some cases, he enjoys a variety of hobbies when off the clock. He likes to whittle, cook, tend to his potted plants, and observe animals in nature. He keeps his skills sharp by sparring and working out, which is a routine he follows strictly.

Perhaps his favourite way to pass the time, however, is just spending time in the presence of those he loves. He finds himself watching medical dramas with Obi or listening to Magna rant about whatever bothers him on any particular day, for example. Due to his people pleasing nature, Angel also likes to take care of housework and chores, including cooking meals for others.

As a result of his extensive training, Angel is an extremely skilled fighter. His main strengths lie in magic, hand to hand combat, and swordfighting, but he is a quick study in all areas. He fights with his double edged sword, Sulza, which is powered by his chaos magic. Angel is a surprisingly agile fighter for his size with extremely quick reflexes, but he's less adept at defence — his instinct is to meet fire with fire rather than to shield or dodge.

On the battlefield, his chaos magic is his most powerful asset. He strikes out with concentrated blasts and pours energy into his sword, which can then inflict disastrous damage once it connects. He is only an effective magic user for as long as he can keep his emotions in check; once he becomes overwhelmed, his magic spins out of control and can quickly become a force of mass destruction.

Angel was born an ancient in Staragorsk, a small countryside town in Serafim. He was raised by his single mother as an only child. It wasn't the idyllic life that one might imagine, however; his mother alternated between obsessively watching over him and neglecting him altogether for days on end. During one such fit of obsession, his mother even clipped his wings, robbing him of the ability of flight. Her treatment of him taught him that objection would lead to punishment and that the only way to keep someone happy was to stay silent.

In the good moments, however, Angel felt loved like any other child. He attended the local nursery and school in the village centre and lived as normally as he could. He played with the neighbours' children in the forest. The one thing he was forbidden from doing was using his magic. His mother ensured that he took tablets every day to suppress his magical ability.

In his eleventh year, Angel experienced his first panic attack after an altercation with his mother. Driven by the strong wave of emotion, his magic activated and — unbeknownst to him — lit up the ley lines like a beacon. When he came home from school the next day, his house was in ruins. A mysterious man standing in the rubble claimed to be his father and told him that his mother was dead. Confused and alone, Angel left the village with his father.

For the next eight years, Angel remained under the strict tutelage of his father. Through the implementation of will magic, his father was able to push him far further than a normal teacher. Although Angel was not aware of it at the time, his father was training him to take up the mantle of void deimity; he believed that through a complex ritual, he would be able to use Angel as a host for the void deimity's soul fragments. As such, Angel was trained in all the areas that his father believed a leader should be adept: magic, combat, history, politics, and even murder.

It was during this period of teaching that Angel began to dissociate regularly. When he was younger, he would sometimes feel as though he left his body during particularly traumatic incidents, but with his father this became his default. He moved through life in a dissociative fugue, unable to shake off the fog clouding his mind.

Once he was eighteen, his father finally saw fit to inform him of the plans for his future. At this point, Angel felt numb to the world, ready to take on his father's will the way he always had. It wasn't until he realised what the ramifications of becoming the deimity would be, including the amount that would need to be sacrificed on his behalf, that he began to question his destiny. He also discovered that his outburst all those years ago had allowed his father to track his location and that his father was responsible for all the destruction, including his mother's death.

It took many months of planning, but eventually Angel had his shot. He attempted to escape from his father's grasp and was prepared to never use magic again, but his father discovered his plans. During an intense battle, Angel opened up a gateway to the void and trapped his father within, finally freeing himself from his command.

Angel spent the next few years living in paranoia and hopping from place to place across the celestial seas. He found himself slipping into odd jobs, which gradually shifted to crime, and eventually killing — his skills were useful in a world where few were prepared to kill.

Eventually, though, he found himself settling in New Centuary. There was a vast and connected underground there, and he felt less alone when surrounded by people. Through pure chance, he was introduced to Magna and Nova through a broker; they needed someone to orchestrate a "disappearance". It was meant to be a one off job, but the trio found themselves working together more regularly after that, and their relationship gradually morphed from wary colleagues to uneasy friends to trusted companions.
