She comes from old money. Goes back to ENGLAND old money. Rich with overprotective parents, bad and bizarre things just seem to happen to her like she's got some kind of curse.

It runs in the family apparently. A shy, stuttering, sheltered rich girl who mostly just wants to have a normal college experience. 

She's an engineering major, works as a theater tech building props and sets in her spare time, and was able to turn a portable speaker into a magnet using just its guts and what she had in her pocket. ALSO currently has a 4.0 GPA. Oh, Essie also does not believe in the supernatural, at all, despite actually coming from a family of witches and warlocks. 

And, amusingly enough, not only does she have the Doubting Thomas Hindrance, but events both in-game and out have resulted in her never actually seeing anything more "blatantly " supernatural to even go into denial about it.
