Inugami are a kind of familiar, or spirit of possession, which are found in Kyushu, Shikoku, and elsewhere in West Japan. In public, an inugami looks identical to an ordinary dog in order to blend in with society. However, its true form is that of a desiccated, mummified dog’s head, often dressed up in ceremonial trappings. This is kept safe (and away from prying eyes) in a secret shrine in its owner’s house.

Kouki is typically composed at a first glanced, watchful and guarded when speaking normally. As a dog spirit, he has a strong sense of loyalty and companionship. However deep in his soul Kouki has a vengeful spite that is suppressed by the beaded necklace he wears, which only lets him leak out his small bits of dark nature when he had to kill or kidnap others on his evoker’s commands. But free of this restraint, he can be hostile to others and unfriendly when his mind is not intact, as if he is consumed by his overwhelming hunger and anger boiling inside of him.

Typically Kouki isn’t the type to question people or doubt other’s good intentions. As long as they gain his trust, he’d willingly follow their requests and do as told. He can be pretty reliable and dependable on fulfilling his duties and obligations. The dog spirit is someone who generally follows orders without question.

Unlike his master, Kouki is not very intelligent and well book smart. He doesn’t understand complicated concepts but rather likes things in a straightforward manner, so he could grasp and follow easily like commands. But in situation, he typically relies on his instincts and follows them when all else fails. But he is very proud when he able to figure out something just relying on his instincts alone as if he accomplished something great.

World:

In Arashirai, a world that resembles feudal japan where shoguns and clans controlled the nation. Various spirits were summoned by evokers to fight between clans killing off one another for power by using all of the dark magic and enchantments they could bring about to reign supreme and be favored by the emperor, who at the time was known as a god for being able to summmon the most powerful and unknown beast.

History:

The dog spirit doesn’t remember his past life, well specifically when he was a normal dog. But Kouki was born and created through a cruel ceremony, even if the dog spirt can’t remember it.  His physical dog body was buried near food and water where only his head stucked out of the ground.  And he was starved and teased by the food and water, as he unable to reach for it even if he desired to eat and drink.  After several days of going mentally crazy, being tortured by hallucinations, his head was severed and cut off to be moved to a noisy and crowded street and be buried there. After a few days time, his head and body would be brought to the shrine, so he could be evoked as a spirit.

After being evoked, Kouki became the shrine’s spirit. He followed his master or evoker, Yuzuru, for the rest of his life. Kouki figured his purpose was serve his master for the rest of his life.  Kouki had a deep friendship with Yuzuru, not knowing his master was a bad person who made turned him into a spirit. But he and his master had a bond that Kouki didn’t understand, maybe it was due to their past relationship while he was a regular dog, but the dog spirit didn’t remember.  Kouki felt inclined to serve Yuzuru, even when he could not even grasp why he had to follow this man’s commands, or why he couldn’t go against them for that matter.  But Kouki did followed as ordered, almost without a thought, slaughtering those who trespassed into the shrine and other humans who to came to rob the shrine’s goods.

But living together in the same household Kouki trusted Yuzuru and grew attached to his master’s companionship. Kouki wanted to stay protecting his master and his master’s family for as long as he could. But it seemed there was a large formidable evil threat that was about to enter the shrine and wanting to kill all of those living in it. However in Kouki true form had to be released to protect Yuzuru and his family from the threat.. His evoker, Yuzuru, trusted his inugami that the spirit would protect his family and thus released the dog of binding spell, talisman necklace around his neck, which limited his full powers.

Once unleashed the dog spirit grew vehement losing his mind completely like when he underwent the cruel ceremony and went in a frenzy.  Kouki killed the threat with his dark magic and his monstrous form but also his own master, as he was blinded by rage and fury.

The inugami came to his senses after the beaded necklace was wrapped around his neck, and he turned distraught as he was unable to protect his master and killed Yuzuru in his rampage. So the inugami vowed to stay and protect the shrine, and his family waiting for his master to reincarnate and return one day. But after almost 2 hundred years of waiting, the Miyamoto family collapsed along with the shrine. and there was no trace left. Thus the dog spirit left the place he guarded as there was nothing there to protect and aboarded the train, after hearing rumors from other spirits of a train that could travel all across the dimensions, hoping that maybe in different world or dimension even that may be he’d come across his master and be able to protect him. Until then, Kouki would wait for him.

   Shadows - Like smoke, his magic can make the shadows move surrounding enemies in a dark mist and suffocating those that wander in the dark cloud as if clinging onto their victims and pulling them further into the darkness
• Possession (Controlling Monsters/Beasts/Items) - Has the ability to take over animals minds if beast's willpower is weaker in comparison to his or if physically are vulnerable. Kouki is also able to possess objects and move them about.

Weaknesses/Limitations:

Generally

•     If you take off his beaded necklace, he’d be in an uncontrollably rage and go berserk, losing his mind and reverting to his vengeful spirit self. Kouki would kill all those around him until he dwindles out of energy and dies, as the necklace around his neck retains and limits his magic, so he is able to sustain his body and part of his emotions.
•     Kouki is susceptible to opponents who can control spirits and souls.
•     If Kouki is in a weakened state, or has used up most of his magic, he cannot use his abilities except physical ones like biting
•     Dark Magic can be addictive and destructive to the user’s mind, body, and spirit if overused.
•     Can get out of hand and uncontrollable at times.

Dark Arts/Dark Magic

• Unable to use his Dark Magic/Arts during the day time for long usages. Limited time use during the day is about 45 minutes or less than that. Otherwise, during the night time, he's able to use his abilities as long as his magic is available.

Possession

  Possession is a high level skill that is hard maintain for long periods, at most 5-10 minutes.

  Also this is not done without an evoker or summoner of some sort watching over him. Since Kouki’s evoker is dead, this cannot be done unless he contracts with another person.
• Basically Possession requires Kouki to use his spirit to enter the target's mind (Beast/Monster/Object) and his physical head would return to being dead and unlifelike, until Kouki's spirit returns, leaving his head vulnerable.
  
• He cannot possess people as people tend to have a strong will and mind barriers that Kouki is unable to penetrate.
  
•  Possessing objects can wear down mechanical tools or objects and can make them break. Machines that are once possessed usually don't work after being manipulated by dark magic, as dark magic tends to force machines to work even if the machine is not able to operate in such a way than intended purpose, ie making gears to move in the wrong manner.

The canine monster began to growl -- more like him. It seemed his own snarl echoed in his ears, and nothing else could be heard but faint sounds of human voices as they began to plead and beg. But even so, he ignored them all; they were noisy. He stated harshly, “Don’t stop me, and be quiet.” He hated it when it was noisy, wanting to rip out their throats and silence them. His eyes blinded with infuriated madness as if he couldn’t see anything in sight. There was only him in the world of darkness. But he could feel something there in front of him,yelling at him, telling him to stop. His body filled with a boiling rage that was overwhelmingly hot as if fueled by his anger, before lashing out in fury, as if to direct his emotions at the being in front of him. He bit at what he could with his canine teeth, piercing his victim with his fangs, and the inugami could taste it, blood - deep red blood that seeped from where he bit and dripped slowly.

It was as if time had turned slowly, as he suddenly came to his senses. The necklace found its way back around his neck. And he realized who he had bitten. The man he served his whole life was found dead in his own jaws. He couldn’t even control himself, what cruel fate it was for him to kill his master, the one he sworn to protect for the rest of his life. So much of a guardian spirit he was. Only regret and remorse filled his heart, and it ached painfully. He only wished this was just a dream and not real. That this wasn’t reality. But it was.

The metallic blood it was as if it numbed and consumed his senses, but now all he could taste was bitterness.. His jaw opened dropping his master's figure onto the ground. The dead corpse dropped onto the concrete floor with a plop. When it was his master's figure he saw on the ground, everything was affirmed as if he was doubting himself as he bit his own master. And reality hit him, as if the inugami was disturbed and agonizing over the sight..  He only hollered, barking at the dead man, but inside he was crying and cursing himself adamantly. It was all his fault.
