Yaxha was alive during Pachacamac's leadership and was Tikal's personal guard, his higher rank denoted by the extra gold and feathers on him, something only Tikal and her father had.
He survived Chaos' attack because he was stationed to prevent Tikal from leaving the main grounds while her father seized the emeralds, but Tikal snuck past him and he didn't know. He only saw the tail end of Chaos' attack and Tikal sacrificing herself.
Blaming himself heavily for his clan's decline and especially for Tikal's death, he came up with the idea for Angel Island so that no one may abuse the power of the emeralds again.
