Profile
Aria is charismatic and silly at first glance. She's naturally funny, and she always knows everyone's favorite music so she can bond over it. She can be found in the ship's greenhouse whenever anyone needs a listening ear. However, she tends to be cryptic about her own emotions.
Underneath her happy, friendly exterior lies a lot of anger, frustration, and pessimism. After she had to get her heart replaced and wound up with a chronic illness seemingly out of nowhere, she is extremely bitter. She tries to hide it, trying to be the same person she was before, but sometimes it's too much.
Droseae
Her alien species is called the Droseae, from the planet Avicia. They are essentially sentient carnivorous plants!
They have regular lungs that breath in oxygen and breath out CO2 (because chemically that's needed for digestion), but they also do photosynthesis with their green skin. Because they get so much oxygen from photosynthesis, they need to breath less of it in, so they have smaller lungs but much more complicated circulatory systems for all that oxygen transportation. Also due to the photosynthesis, they tend to show a lot of skin- tank tops or backless shirts are very popular.
They have cool arms that branch off at the elbows to give them 4 hands, and vaugly deer like legs.
The most notable thing about them, though, is the flowers on the back of their heads. These vary wildly from one person to the next- it's the easiest way to tell them apart.
Backstory
Amsonaria's parent is a Droseaen immigrant to Earth who works as a trade ambassador with Earth countries. Amsonaria was born on Avicia, but gained an American citizenship when she was a baby. She can speak both English and Droseae.
Her parent spent his extra money to take trips back and forth between Earth and Avicia sometimes - not wanting Amsonaria to miss out on her culture and family. It was on these frequent trips (every other Earth year or so) that she fell in love with space and became obsessed with going there forever.
The cheapest way for her to do this was to join the military, so she did when she grew up! She specialized in weapons because it was the most in demand and versatile- and she liked feeling powerful. She worked for a few years on an Earth combat spaceship. They didn't see much action because there's no current war, but they did drills and trained and helped with minor galactic skirmishes. She was good at her job and she loved it.
Then, she got sick.
It was genetic- unpredictable, but her heart just gave out. Her ship dropped her off on Avicia for medical treatment, where she was given a prosthetic heart. It was the only treatment that had any longevity. She stayed with her aunt and grandparent for a while, waiting to heal enough to go back.
But then her ship told her they wouldn't be picking her back up. They got her a ticket back to Earth with her father, and told her she was done. She'd become a liability.
She was devastated and pissed and contacted her old commanders with some things she probably shouldn't have said. Luckily, her commanding officer felt bad for her, and respected her enough to let it slide. They asked around and found another military spaceship that would take her. No need for an honorable discharge - just a transfer!!
Because the space ship she would now be on had Soheili- universe's leading bionics expert and probably the best doctor in the galaxy. She's only been on this new ship for a couple months, but she hates it. She liked the captain, and most of her crewmates, sure, but she can never leave without having to quit space forever.
It's hard not to blame 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰𝘯𝘦 for what happened to them, and unfortunately, Soheili got to be that person. Eventually, though, she realizes how hard they are trying to help her- in a lot of ways.
He is a good leader and great with people, and she likes and respects him. She thinks he's down to earth and cool- which he is.
He is a little intimidating, but she thinks he's cool. She respects his ability to fight and thinks he's a little funny to tease. It unsettles her that he can read her mind- she is an angrier person there and the fact somone else can see that is scary to her.
They both like to fuck around and they look out for each other. He's always down for a bit, which she loves.
Aria is probably best friends with Francisco and Chloe out of everyone. They all love to gossip, and they're so nonjudgmental that it puts her at ease. Francisco is also a very flirty person, which she loves to encourage.
She has a friendly competition vibe going with him. He's a total bro, but she's also from a really strong alien species, so he's always trying to outdo her. She thinks its funny, but wishes her chronic illness wasn't slowing her down, because he's' sort of catching up to her.
Again, Chloe and Francisco are probably her best friends on the ship. Chloe is super friendly and cute and always getting into mishaps with horrifying alien animals she thinks are cute. It winds up with her getting treated in the medbay pretty often, and since Aria has to be there all the time too, she's glad for the company.
Lucinda is slightly intimidating for them, despite being literally seventeen inches shorter. She's badass though, and has a good taste in music, so Aria still likes her.
