As a lockette, Grim was formed like most were, at a festival. However, upon creation he was quite... melancholy. While his creator sought a peaceful life together, it wasn't long before he became possessed and gave up his original name, taking on the name "Grim" instead. Though his creator attempted to stop him, he fought and left them for dead (though even he doesn't know if he killed them or not). He haunted places, loitered, and got sucked into whatever violence or conflict happened nearby. While it helped him cope, it was far from healthy, as it often left him with a lot of damage. And unless he cleaned up, his inked possession tended to scare others off, ally and enemy alike. If he became too much of a menace, he was chased off, even if he didn't like it.

Eventually, he became aquaintances with Marci, a lockette that seemed hell-bent on befriending him, even though he "don't do friends". After dropping in on one of her concerts, he found her company more and more tolerable, and before he knew it she became an irreplaceable part of his life. While Grim is far from overly affectionate, he became very protective of her, and there is admittedly much to him that only she has been able to witness.
