Vian Lionhardt

Tireless Savior

From blood and ashes thou shall be reborn, oh grieving one.

Betraying your ideals doesn't guarantee salvation, but as long as there's a chance, even if its a minuscule one he'll be willing to take it. If it's in order to protect the ones he loves, he won't care if he's to be destroyed.

History

Begginings

Born the second child of a mediocre family that lived in a mediocre village soon after his mother had parted ways with his biological father, due to that he never met the man, although he has never felt the urge to do so since he's been very content with his family. For some years it was just him, his mother and his older sister Allana, a gifted girl who not only was unbelievably smart but also had a powerful natural connection to the arcane.

Allana was the pride and joy of the family, her abilities even earned her a spot in a famous magic academy which allowed the family to gain more income due to their rising popularity. When his sister went away to study Vian became the house's little "handyman", he would help his mom around the house and take on little commissions from the villagers in order to bring some more gold home and help sending Allana a little bit of pocket money so she could afford whatever she needed while studying. Vian was popular with the village due to his enthusiastic nature and his will to help anyone in need, and that didn't change when his mom tried to settle down with another partner, who after some years and the birth of the twins had to leave due to a job offer abroad. The twins were an impossible task for his mother alone so between commissions he would always help her out.

Soon after the twins had their 6th birthday a letter from Allana arrived, she would return home in a few months now that her graduation was near but the twins weren't too enthusiastic about the idea of this "older sister" but after hearing Vian praise her endeavors and her magical prowess they grew fond of that whimsical sorcerer their sister was meant to be. Sadly, the day where they would meet their sister never came, the last few months before the letter arrived there had been news of neighboring villages being seized and routed by a band of bandits and it was just a matter of time they got to theirs.

Siege

When the bandits first attacked Vian joined a small force of villagers who were strong enough to try and defend the people but they soon realized they were no match for the bandits since the difference in numbers was too great, that's when Vian made a desperate attempt to protect his family and sealed a deal with the enemy forces. "I'll tell you where the village stores its resources and riches as long as my family is unharmed" he promised to them and after striking a deal he proceeded to share said information. The village remained under siege for several weeks, and as the shortage of resources grew bigger and Vian struggled to keep his family fed the twins came up with the idea to carry their secret plan, after seeing how Vian worried and worked hard for them they thought that if they sneaked into bandit quarters and successfully robbed them of some food he could rest for a bit. They managed to sneak past Vian unnoticed but unfortunately they weren't so lucky when sneaking into bandit camp, getting caught and held hostage until the next day.

The next morning was horrifying for Vian, he woke up to the twins missing and a rude knocking on his door. He was called by the bandits which would lead to a series of devastating events, after seeing his little siblings who he loved tied up and bruised the leader of the bandit band explained to him how the village was running out of value for them, they weren't too rich and the little food they had would soon become too little to even feed a small family. Then it started, screams and screeches echoed around the village as the residents were slaughtered and their houses wrecked, Vian stood in horror, held back and grappled by the bandits completely unable to help or rescue the twins lying unconscious in front of him. As he tried to brush them off, now unable to understand the words spoken to him which were drowned by the screams, he saw the bandit leader plunge his weapon on both the twins' heads, and there he stood, defeated. He had failed to do the very thing he had promised, to protect his family, he had betrayed his people and his own values for nothing, all he loved had now been destroyed and soon his life was brought to an end too.

Reborn

His body and mind started eroding but somehow life sparked on him again, like little embers that lit up entire forests, the feeling of warmth ran through his body once again. As he reached towards the light that slowly embraced him, he swore to himself to treasure this second chance and make the most of it. He would now dedicate himself to protect anyone no matter what, he had been blessed with another opportunity and if he wanted to prove himself worthy he would never hurt a single soul again. Even if seemingly bad, he would grant anyone a second chance as he believed patience would lead them towards the right path. The oath he had sworn granted him the ability to not only put to use his fighting skills from a past life but also to finish unlocking the magic he always had had within himself, which he now would use to protect the innocent and serve the one who had brought him back to life.

That being said, it took Vian some time to become fully aware of the situation he was in. When he was revived his memories and sense of self were foggy and distorted, he was aware of having died and being brought back to life but he had no knowledge of how long it had been since his death, where he was or even who he was meant to be. His memories came back to him in dreams, little glimpses of the past showcasing his family and the last moments he spent within the spaces of that tiny village he used to call home.

Months passed while he tried to begin his life anew, holding onto those precious moments while trying to recreate the happiness he once felt but those dreams wouldn't stay pure forever. On a night like any other Vian decided to have a little rest to reminisce but when he tried to look back all he could see was blood. Red stained his previously cheerful dreams and finally reality set in, he could remember how he died now and most importantly how he drove all his loved ones to their end while betraying his principles and these visions would chase and torment him now and forever.
