Petalpelt was born partially blind and despite adapting quite well her clan was never quite sure how to treat her. She wanted to train as a medicine cat from the time she was a young kit after the clan's med cat treated an injury of Petalpelt's. Petalpelt was fascinated by the idea of being able to ease the pain of others and was awed by the vast knowledge the clan med cat seemed to have. 

The clan med cat was happy to take on Petalpelt as an apprentice, despite some skepticism from the clan. Petalpelt proved to have an excellent memory, especially when it came to scents. 

Petalpelt earned her full medicine cat name and went on to mentor Nightstripe after the death of her own mentor.
