"Maybe if you tried being a bit more...flexible?"

Nobody's really sure where they come from, but everyone can agree on one thing about Mercury: they're trouble. Acting under the moniker 'Amalgam,' they're a dangerous rogue agent shapeshifter whose abilities in infiltration and murder go to the highest bidder. That being said, Mercury's primary concern is themself, not money. Whether it's what will get them ahead, what will get them a good time, or most importantly, what lets them survive, you can count on them to act selfishly. They keep things very professional, but sometimes even those who pay good money for their services can sometimes find themselves on the other end of the blade, if someone else comes along and makes a bit more sense to them. Mercury specialize in stealth, high profile theft, and assassination by poison, so most often you'll see them doing jobs to the ends of higher profile villains. They do have their own agenda sometimes, but finding clues is difficult unless you pay close attention to the who and why of the jobs they take.

They're charismatic and good at saying all the right things. Mercury knows the importance of connnections, but seems to balance them in their mind as if interpersonal relationships were just another currency to gamble. And they're always playing the long game, so try not to get conned.

Powers

Mercury is a class-A shapeshifter, able to fully replicate the appearances of others down to voices and mannerisms. The mannerisms thing is mostly a learned habit, but their shapeshifting allows them to become a 100% copy of anyone they've seen, as well as craft new appearances (such as different appearances to use as themselves when walking about normally). Their power also gives them skin that is metallic in appearance. This has little affect on things such as durability, they get hurt the way anyone else does. That being said, when they shapeshift, it appears as if they turn into liquid metal and morph into the new shape, before the color and textures adjust to match the form in mind.

As for limitations, they mostly are only able to turn into other humans/humanoids. There's nothing really stopping them from turning into animals, but they find it extremely difficult. They can, however, adopt animalistic traits such as gills or claws or wings and obtain their intended function. They can turn into forms significantly larger or smaller than they are, but not extremely so. In addition, their internal organs do all function as intended, so while they could keep up an appearance to defy aging, the physical effects of it would still take hold over time. That being said, they can control the placement of certain vital organs, both voluntarily and instinctually, to avoid potential grevious injury.

The Story Thus Far

One has to wonder, what kind of upbringing would you have to have to become someone so self-centered, so focused on your own survival? Well, keep wondering.
