 Main story: 
RJ was born in a family who was heels over their firstborn Argento, deemed as perfection, and therefore was always expected to do as him. Even his full name is after his older brother, and he can't stand that. He didn't even want to become a Trainer...until Argento was sent back home stripped of his Trainer License; it was then that their mother forced RJ to go and start his Pokemon adventure, and to take the exact same steps (minus the cheating, of course) Argento made.*
Of course, this didn't last long, and he soon came to loathe his life as a Trainer; a bit more than an year later Argento came to know how he was forced to do so, and helped him resign from the Trainer career**, offering to help him find his own path. But RJ was still too bitter towards Argento (although none of it was his fault) and harshly seeked solitude.

Years passed by, Argento had found his vocation as Pokemon Ranger, and was being also very good at it, while RJ was tired to being confined to little boring New Bark Town, as he couldn't venture much far without any Pokemon, but after an open-minding vacation to Unova (he was actually accompanying Kristy, Ash and Aida) he talked with Professor Elm to get another Trainer License.*** However, he only used that to catch Pokemon that could be his travelling companions, and the only reason he battled against Gym Leaders was to obtain permission to use HM moves in order to explore the whole region; he decided he would be a watcher, and study as much Pokemon as he could for research. He never bothered with the Elite 4, until he actually wanted to explore also Kanto and needed to beat a championship in order to go there.

After that, his curiosity didn't seem that could be satiated, and started travelling more and more; but he only observed Pokemon now, instead of catching, because he felt bad that he couldn't take properly care of all of them if he did. His travels brought him very often to Unova, since it was the place that made his career bloom, where he met N and caught the king's curiosity with his constant observing Pokemon, but not capturing them (which N misunderstood for a neverending love for Pokemon and wishes for their perfect natural world like he did), and they started seeing each other more and more, eventually falling in love...though RJ constantly denies that.

As of now, RJ settled with all the other OCs in Mt. Silver's refuge to write, since he already explored all regions there are to explore, and waits until new places will be discovered while writing books and occasionally writing journal articles or partecipating in Pokemon documentaries. He still keeps a long-distance "non-relationship" with N, but they try to see each other as much as they can.

Notes:
*When I was a kid, after Argento’s game resetted I was completely destroyed and after some mourning, I decided to try restart the game making everything the same, to try and “relive” Argento. So same name, same starter, etc. but Totodile didn’t want to be a lady it seemed and I was stuck with a male one who definetely wasn’t Achona. And so, Argento Junior was born, the poor younger brother whose parents tried to force following Argento’s steps xD;
**My gameplay with RJ didn't last very long, and in 1-2 years I barely played with it, it just wasn't Argento. I was almost relieved when it resetted too.
***A few years ago I got my old games batteries replaced, and so I decided to give a proper adventure to RJ, with his nickname instead of Argento's <3 For the replacement I sent my games to a person in the USA (since they could change them without damaging save files -very important for Aida and Kristy's games), so that's his trip to Unova xD

Grigoris -> Furret, male
RJ's Pokemon partner who's always present in any team he has on hand, yet despite that doesn't really enjoy battling. Grigoris is a highly curious yet very serious and zealous Furret, always alert to keep his friends away from danger. His keen eyes and hightened perception senses make him the ideal partner when exploring and during Pokemon watching, as he becomes aware of Pokemon RJ may not notice. He often wears a collar with a small camera on it, so that he can quietly approach wild Pokemon and record them for RJ to see. He tends to coil around people and Pokemon he takes a liking in.

Argento really loves him and often tries to get close to his lil bro, but RJ is a very reserved type who doesn't like contact with people, not even family. Plus, since he was little he was always compared to Argento, and everyone always expected big things from him just like his older brother did, so he's kinda bitter about that. They do have a better relationship than with their sister though.

Silver is sadly the kind of person RJ can NOT stand: pesky, always loud, annoying, and ready to prank anytime. He basically bears with her only because they're siblings.
